Well hello everyone I'm new around here but definitely not new to nissans or the auto industry. I have an r32 drift car and a 510 that used to be my daily before I picked up this 1995 Q45 for $800. I must say I'm very impressed with the car but hate the trans. Im planning a 5 speed swap in the future, I'll start collecting parts and probably do the swap in December. Picking up a z32 5 speed next weekend and then I can send it off for machining and pick up an adapter plate. But that's not the reason for the post. From searching it seems like no one is rom tuning the 16 bit ecu. I was wondering what it would take to switch to the 8 bit ecu? Just a couple repins or is the harness very different from the zenki cars? Thanks in advance and if you want to see my other projects check out my blog. Seriousbadass.com. Here are a couple pics of the q45 I just picked it up for $800 so just did tune up, k&n drop in, took a JIC-Magic jdm cima exhaust and modified it to fit with a custom midpipe eliminating the mufflers under the car.

Welcome to the world of the G50 Q!

Junk the K&N, it'll foul the MAF.
as for the ECU, I'm pretty sure it's a bolt-in, plug-in affair...
Ask Elwesso or 1990_Q, they'll know fer sure!

I know a lot of people don't like k&n filters and I agree that they flow more because they don't filter nearly as well as stock but on the other hand I have never had a problem with them on any cars I've run them on. Thanks for reminding me though I forgot to clean the maf when I did the tune up. I'll check with elwesso on the ecu thanks for the advice.

It's not just the reduction in filtration. The Q's MAF doesn't have a heating element for self-cleaning, so over time the filter's oil is drawn into the intake system as a fine mist, and it fouls the sensor element. It fouled mine beyond repair in a week! I did like the better tip-in feel and snappier throttle response, but with the cost of replacing the MAF, I'd advise going back to a quality Wix or comparable stock-style paper filter...

Nice find, BTW! That Q was a steal for $800!!! I got mine in trade for doing the timing belt and water pump in a Kia Sportage. 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon for a 94 Q45 was a good deal, even with 2 bad injectors...

Thanks for the advice I'll keep it in mind. I have an extra maf laying around so my chance it since otherwise I have no real use for the extra maf :)

Yeah I can't believe how cheap these cars are right now. Plus I have owned so many 240's and I have so many extra parts laying around it works out perfect. I have a full set of extra arms for the car. Just waiting to buy coils and maybe try to fit my s1's from the race car. They are pretty aggressive though so it will take a bit of fender work. Probably have to order new fronts.
