Hi there I recently had my front drivers rotor replaced due to scoring etc on the ol' 93' hatch. I left the passangers front rotor alone because it had not been making noise. Anyway about a week later the passenger one starts grinding so I say fine, go buy new rotor for passenger BUT use 1 week old brake pads on new rotor. Guess what it's still grinding on the passengers side and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why. I am looking for any suggestions or opinions that may point to possible hydraulic or caliper failure. I am going to go outside right now and put brand new pads on the 2 new rotors with brake pad stop squeek and lots of break cleaner and grease for the calipers. Just really need the help now seeing as i'm trying to sell my car and i'm really stressing!!!! Please help :help

What do you mean grinding? You mean like squealing like metal on metal when you drive?

I has the same thing, but when I replaced the pads I didn't lubricate the back of the pads with brake grease (I used silicon white grease, which apparently doesn't work) and had mad squealing unless the brake was barely on or on full. After removing everything and using brake grease (very thick stuff) everything was fine. Remember this is on the back of your pads, not on the side that touches your rotor.

Thanks for your reply, No there is no squeeling of any kind just a metal to metal grinding sound coming from the caliper. I am currently bleeding my lines as a extra measure....

Hopefully you understand that the metal to metal grinding sound only occurs when I am braking and right before the car comes to a stop. Thank you

Ok, got done with the job and I just ended up screwing up the brake lines by getting air in them. I had an all day terror trying to do my clutch hydraulics so I will give it to Pep Boys tomorrow. Unfortunately I can still hear the all distinct grind from my front passenger wheel. I'm starting to think that the Piston is getting stuck and thus grinding the pads against the rotor. Anyone got a heads up, so I can know wheter or not to replace the caliper before i get my fluid flush? Thanks in advance

The mistake is using the same brake pads. Any time you replace a rotor you are going to need to replace the pads too.

The reason is that the old rotor will unevenly wear the brake pads.

Replace the pads, torque the bolts correctly and you should be fine.

On my 92 all the grinding sound comes from the brake pad clips rubbing the router. Right now I'm using the front pads without the clips and it seems to be fine, IE no more grinding sound. I'm thinking about just pulling the back ones to.

Went and bought brand new pads, bled lines and grinding went away but a moaning sound replaced it. Went and bought a reman. brake master cylinder and all is quiet again. Thanks for your help
