I wonder if we can retrofit this new unit in our older Versa's for 400 bucks?

http://latimesblogs.latimes.co....html

From the LA Times.

Shelling out for a navigation system in a new car can be a seriously painful experience. Often thrown into a tech package -- a sort of automotive catchall for an assortment of expensive gadgets and gizmos -- speccing your car with a nav has typically cost somewhere in the $2,000 to $3,000 range, and when you're looking at a $25,000 to $30,000 car, that's a depressingly significant percentage of the price.

As a result, you may have noticed a lot of cars driving around with glowing screens dangling from the windshield. Top-of-the-line aftermarket navigation units cost roughly $500, and in this morbid economic climate they present a right here, right now savings option to new car buyers. A few carmakers have even caught on, offering aftermarket nav packages in budget sedans.

But we knew eventually someone would jam an affordable touchscreen into the dash of a budget sedan. We waited. And waited. Then we got bored and waited some more. And then Nissan came out of nowhere with a very understated victory in the race for affordable technology. Buried in a very unassuming press release (they're all unassuming), Nissan revealed that, as of January, it will be making available a $400 integrated navigation package on the Sentra and Versa.

I was given a chance to use the new Bosch-supplied navigation system last week, and it's an excellent addition to Nissan's small car lineup. It features a 5-inch touchscreen flanked by conventional controls for the audio system and is compatible with USB, iPod and Bluetooth. Nissan has always been in the top of the heap when it comes to iPod integration -- let's face it, who's using a Zune anyway -- and the new system features vertical scrolling similar to the iPod's user interface, so if you can run an iPod, there's no real learning curve. The nav system is pretty intuitive as well, and features XM NavTraffic real-time updates so long as you subscribe to satellite radio. It might measure out at only 5-inches, but for an in-dash system at a price of $400, it's also kind of a no-brainer.

I'm sure it will fit in the dash, but the trouble will be the connections. For the Navi there will be an antenna somewhere. Probably in the roof, which will have a hole in the metal. It may just be cheaper to go aftermarket in the end.

There is going to be the Brain(unless built into the unit), the Screen, the antenna(GPS), the navigation DVD(unless it is Flash Based) and the Surrounding bracket for the Navigation Screen.

You are better off going aftermarket, something like the Pioneer F series of units, they can be had for cheap now because they are 2008 models, yet they can be fully upgradeable, maps, POI's and firmware on the units.

you can get them online for around 450-550. Everything is upgradeable so no need to pay for map navigation DVD's which are very very expensive.

Sorry to resurrect a thread from October 2009, but I was wondering if anyone has tried retrofitting an older Versa with the new 'Factory' NAV system for the newer Versa's?

Cheers,

I have looked into doing it, but I am still not sure where I would put the satellite antenna. I'm not thrilled with the thought of putting a hole in my roof, even if the antenna covers it.

Do the new versa's with this unit have a gps antenna installed on them? if that was required it would be out for me.Why is it my Garmin gps is small /flat and requires no antenna to work, why would a modern OEM unit be any different? I would really like to upgrade to this OEM unit, just seems theres no info out about it.

Does anyone know if this is even available as a replacement part, and if so, how much?

Yes, it is. I think it's about $800 MSRP.

And yes, it requires an antenna.

I've owned 2 radios with Nav on them, both required antennas. I think they all do, but the antenna's are small and only need to be on the dash, or just under the plastic dash cover. Your Garmin unit has it built in and is dash mounted. I haven't heard of anyone needing to mount the antenna on the exterior of the car.

You can pick up an Eclipse head unit for much less than the Nissan one. I have an AVN5500 and AVN6200 that I paid about $300 each for. I'm considering upgrading to the AVN726e.

Yeah. I've been checking eBay and car-part.com (use Nissan Versa 2010 or 2011) for them:

Nothing yet. I'm sure towards the end of the year the availability will increase.

Ouch $999 USD before shipping... And it's from a salvage:

2010 Nissan Versa Navigation Radio 25915 ZW80B LKQ

There's two different Nissan part #'s for the NAV system:

25915ZW80B
25915ZT51B

I looked at the AV section from the FSM between the 2009 (2007-2009) model and the 2010 (2010-2011) model. The "primary" harness is compatible between the two models. There is of course the antenna harnesses for the GPS and XM Radio (2010 or 2011 part). Then there's two separate harnesses which doesn't exist on the 2007-2009 models which is for the "newer" AUX, USB & iPod integration harnesses. The harness that's used for iPod integration between 2007-2009 and 2010-2011 has changed. Going to have to either:

#1. Hack it up.
#2. Find the Nissan part #'s to get the OE harness that goes into the center console.
#3. Wait for an the aftermarket harness.

Cheers,
Kermee

I have a 2010 with ipod and bluetooth if this would just plug in I would buy it, spoke to an audio guy, he said the gps antenna is no problem to put under the dash(no drilling into the body) but said the without looking at it he would not know if it would be compatible.I would spend the $ if I could be sure.

It might. I was looking at the NAV and non-NAV harnesses in the 2010-2011 FSM for the iPod, Aux, etc. and remembered they were different. Though there might be associated OE Nissan parts that takes care of it. I've never checked with a Nissan dealership to see if the NAV system is a factory-installed option or if it's possible as a dealership-installed option. If it's a dealership installable option, then we might be able to figure out what auxiliary parts & harnesses are needed to install the NAV unit.

But for sure, the harnesses for the iPod, Aux, Bluetooth for non-NAV units between the 2007-2009 and 2010-2011 are different. But since you have a 2010, your chances of being able to retrofit the OE NAV unit into your vehicle would be much easier.

I know this post is long dead but yes you can hook up in a 07 to 11 versa hatch. i think the 12 can as well before the body swap. take the head unit suggested plug in dash harness. add on the navigation antenna and the xm radio antenna and your done. the navi setup plugs in the dash it has a section to clip in the dash.
