I own a 2002 Q45. Thanks to this list I have learned how to fix my rear sun shade, fix a slight water leak in my trunk. Now I am due for a new battery. My fear is to screw up my electrical system and find myself with odd lights triggered on when I swap out the battery. i.e. SRS airbag light, or any other idiot light being triggered by the battery change.

Any tips on how to change the battery with the least drama?

Thanks!

I can't imagine it's any different than any other car. I've never heard anything special about an F50 battery swap.

I was worried the nav screen or srs system might trigger when the battery is disconnected. Any F50 owners out here?

They make a special temporary small battery to plug into cigarette lighter/aux ower port to avoid losing memories for a few hours!

Necessary on post 2000 vehicles or earlier with seat/steering memories.

There is a gadget commonly sold for this purpose which uses a small 9 volt transistor radio battery to supply voltage to the electrical system, via the car's cigar lighter plug. Unfortunately, the Q45's lighter plug isn't connected to anything until the ignition switch is turned on - and turning the ignition switch on draws way too much current for the puny 9 volt battery to supply.

Bad idea.

I use a small 12 volt gell-cell (out of a computer UPS), connected to a short piece of 2-conductor zip cord, with large alligator clips soldered to the other end of both wires. I attach these wires to the battery cables before disconnecting and removing the battery, taking care not to allow them to unclip until after the cables are connected to the new battery.

I'm not particularly concerned about things going haywire without battery power, but rather the prospect of having to re-program the radio, memory seat positions, etc. afterwards.

Thank you! I am not worried about having to reprogram anything I just wanted to make sure I was not going to run into any "you have to go back to the dealer to get your SRS/Airbag light and or ABS or ...light reset".

I replaced the battery on my now departed 2002 Q45 last year and it was quick and easy. Just had to save radio stations and seat memory again. Nav settings were not affected when I did the swap.

Car started up a lot better too!

Changing the battery will not cause any codes or issues to your Q45. :)

Doesn't cause any problems by pulling the terminals out. I've started my Q with the airbags unplugged before to move it out of the workshop before I had time to reinstall them. Once you plug them back in no SRS light.
