I am the proud owner of 2002 Q45 and to say I am 100% happy with my choice would be a understatement. That said I have run into a few problems and I am wondering if these are "common known issues" with hopefully simple straightforward solutions.

1) Water in the spare tire well. We were deluged with a nor'easter rainstorm over the weekend and for whatever reason I had decided to check to see what kind of spare came with the car (full size spare) I found water in the spare tire well! The rest of the trunk was bone dry, carpet, styrofoam inserts everything was dry. Both trunk plugs were in place (I took one out to drain the trunk and after it was dry I put it back in. Is this a common problem with F50's?

2) Right side (passenger) mirror was working when I bought the car 2 weeks ago. For whatever reason it will no longer move?

3) Rear sunshade does not work

Thanks in advance! My biggest concern is the water entering the spare tire well.

Andrew:

I can confirm I have two of your three reported problems.

For the rear trunk leak, I simply removed one of the two drain plugs under the tire. Now at least the water getting in can get out...and not grow sea monkeys.

As for the rear sunshade, I too am stumped. It has been stuck in the UP position for a few months now. Nothing I've tried works.

I thought I saw another post on the forum about someone suggesting to remove the rear deck package, but I could not find the proper PDF on the factory service manual page

Perhaps someone else can comment???

Leaky trunk problem SOLVED!

The rear tail lenses on the F50's are mounted with a large foam gasket between the tail lens and the body/metal. My Q had some minor paint work to the rear bumper and the body shop blended the Titanium paint up thru the rear trunk. When they painted the rear of the car they removed the tail lenses rather then tape them up. I am glad they went this route. Unfortunately they did not replace the foam taillense gaskets with new ones. These gaskets are really 1 time use as they compress and being 7 years old there was little "rebound" when the lense was reinstalled. This was causing water to enter the trunk and trickle down to the sparetire well filling it with water. I used 3M body putty (like playdo in strips) lined the contact area on both sides of the gasket and ta da! NO MORE LEAKS!

The rear sunshade tabs break and need to be replaced. Do a search for ITB01-065a this is the instructions and part number for the replacement tabs. Fixed my sunshade.

I've searched all over but, no joy on finding the ITB01-065a document.

Any chance you can point us to a link?

PS: What's with the IBM commercial? I thought it was a tutorial for replacing the clips.

Just like dealers pay to belong to Nissn data network, owners are expected to subscribe occassionally to download FSM, TSB, and other info pertaining to vehicle.

A 24 hour subscription is $19.95 and allows you to download everything.
