So I decided to change up my setup some. Now have 2.5" pipes into a better X-pipe and have 2.5" Magnaflow Magnapaks at the exit of the X, in the location the stock resonators once resided. I removed the cutouts and the factory muffler section. Ran 2.5" tailpipes into the factory tips. Sound is somewhere between cutouts open and cutouts closed. It is very loud under acceleration and at startup but I like it and it is barely noticeable at highway cruising speeds unless you lay into it a bit going uphill or accelerating. No interior drone or annoying resonance at cruising speeds or under normal acceleration. Full throttle is not jearly as loud as when I had the cutouts open, dumped under the rear of the car prior. Sounds alot like a newer 5.0 Mustang with a catback on it.

Here is what it sounds like. Backed up against a concrete building it was louder than the microphone on my phone could handle. It is about twice as loud in person.

I have not touched the tune up yet, but it is still the same torquey monster it has always been. Has no trouble laying rubber down from the P275/40R20s on the back. With the taller rear tires the speedo is still about 8% low. 56 mph on the speedo is right at 60 mph.

I am also actually considering header wrapping the exhaust up to the X-pipe to help keep the exhaust gases hotter and the exhaust velocity higher. Theory is it should help scavenging which helps power and also help keep the heat off the floor board where the factory exhaust did not have a heatshield between the body and pipes other than what was attached to the factory Y-pipe.

i was at the shop I go to for tunes and work etc and tuner told me to not even bother doing test pipes that these cars don't gain much from them to for sure do headers and catback. well I asked about the m37 let me be specific since that's what I drive

Yep colder air is more dense, heavier. I also sprayed mine with a sealant to help keep it from unraveling. You car sounds great; back in the day we used to put the mufflers right after the headers - man it sounded awesome doing it that way. With this car though, I prefer to keep the mufflers in the back. There are several articles about optimum muffler placement. Most seem to prefer rear placement but there are some who like them more closer to the engine. Peformance-wise I don't think it really matters; just personal preference.

Maybe on the V6...The V8 likes to breathe. My Titan with less power from the factory gained nearly 20 hp at the tires on a Mustang Dyno at redline removing the secondary cats alone.

Running the exhaust through the factory mufflers cost me nearly 4 mph in the 1/8 compared to open cutouts. Hemce why I wanted something that breathed well while being quieter.

Depends on what you are wanting to accomplish...if you just want a little more sound and maybe a little more performance I would go with a catback set up like Stillen or a custom X-pipe exhaust with performance mufflers. If you want even more sound AND even more performance then I would add the test pipes or HFC's and a custom intake and a tune for sure. IMHO you don't need headers; if you look at a factory M37 manifold, it is pretty much a header:
