Just replaced my stock exhaust with new Injen Super SES with flamed titanium tips. Looks and sounds absolutely awesome...as long as you're outside the car. Inside the noise level is, no joking, eardrum rattling. Every piece of plastic and trim that is not as tight as a drum buzzes intensely each time through the gears. It's nuts!!

Question: Has anyone else installed this exhaust and, if so, are/did you experience anything similar? I'm guessing that the giant cavity left by the removal of the stock muffler is somehow amplifying the sound from the two staight-thru mufflers which are directly under it. Does anyone have any ideas how to tone (no pun intended) this system down? The sound level outside the car is nearly perfect so it would be a shame to scrap it not to mention being a ghastly expensive mistake. Anyone know if the Borla single muffler on their cat-back could be retrofitted to this system? My son's Z has the entire Borla exhaust and has no dB problems inside or out.

Any ideas/suggestions would sure be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Glad you found us.I've seen a ton of posts here talking about modified exhaust, but I've never hears any complaints about the noise or vibrations inside the car. There are several members here with experience in that area and I'm sure they will be along today with their opinions. Stay tuned.

Welcome to NICO.

Your exhaust hangers, do they have any type of rubber bushings on them? Sounds like you don't have any!

Actually, it sounds like the resonator has been removed in the Injen system.

The resonator sits right in the middle of the car and dampens sound quite a bit. Cutting this out you get a lot of vibration and noise going straight up into the car.

My guess is you have 2 options if you keep this. 1) have a resonator installed in place 2) find a way to dampen sound via sound mat or other materials.

I would also make a phone call to Injen/distributors and ask them about this.

I dont know anyone who has has this exhaust...

Welcome to NICO!

When I had my Stillen put on, the only problem was an exhaust leak from one of the midpipes. I would say that something is touching where it shouldn't be underneath your car...Did you do it yourself? If not, take it back to the shop and have them take a look. Definitely not a normal problem.

I was debating for a long time between the injen and the hks. I ended up going with the hks and am not dissapointed one bit. It sounds like there may be an exhaust leak or as other noted it could be rubbing on something. With my hks I had to bend the passenger side piping a little bit to clear a suspension bolt. Good luck and give injen a call.

Thanks to everybody for the ideas/comments/suggestions. Yes, all hangers have new rubber bushings. A local performance shop did the install and it would surprise me if they left anything loose that might be leaking. I'm not sure about the resonator thing. I'm not familiar with all of the components but there are two cylinder-shaped devices, one on each exhaust pipe approx. mid cabin. They are integral to the pipes meaning they are not attached with clamps but rather welded in place. The only joining points are just aft of the cats and at the points where each muffler joins the main pipes at the rear. All of those clamp points seem to be secure.

I've emailed Injen a few days ago but haven't heard from them yet. I'll head back to the dealer tomorrow with everyone's suggestions from here in hand. Maybe they'll come up with something.

Again, thanks very much to everyone for the quick and helpful responses.
