funny.. thats my old video.

remember an sr naturally has a different note, and is vaguely quieter and significantly less raspy because of the turbo. S14's sound decent with an exhaust n/a because of the dual catalytic converters. in my opinion n/a s13's need the longest center muffler possible if the sound is important to you.

Hey guys, I have a question. I've decided on the BRM exhaust for my S14, but I'm wondering, should I go 2.25" or 2.5"? What's the difference in sound? I have no plans of turboing this motor so I'm not going to go any bigger than that. Also, what size resonator? This car is a daily driver so it can't be too loud for around town cruising, but I want it to sound mean when I get on it. Thanks!

im going to go ahead and suggest 2.25". Stock is 2". I figure Borla knew what they were doing when they used to make catbacks for S13's, anyway. Also from my experience larger diameter piping than necessary tends to add sound on the harsh side. I would still get the longest center muffler available. You may wish it were louder sometimes, but you'll be glad you weren't wishing it would be quieter most of the time.

Gentlemen,

I just found my old good quality vid of my S13 shortly after I got my BRM as seen in the video at the bottom of the previous page, but with a KADE.

Hotshot header, stock cat, 2.5" piping, longest center (yes the aluminized one on stainless piping) muffler, dual tip rear. the stock header may quiet it a bit but i doubt more than a barely noticable amount.

again, same exhaust as in the sr vid on the last page, but with a kade. notice the difference in sound.

also, make fun of the smoke all you want. that thing's a ka-t beast in someones s14 these days

http://www.recordedmemory.com/exhaust.wmv (32mb)id prefer you downloaded it so if you want to watch it more than once you dont chew my b.width again. if it becomes unavailable at any point its because my host shut me down from breeching my traffic allowence. i just didnt want it to get compression raped on google.

Wow, never knew borla made exhaust for 240s...my dad has some borla mufflers on his truck and they sound fantastic. By center muffler do you mean resonator? If so I take it I should go with 22" then? Seems like I remember reading earlier that the shorter the resonator the quieter the car is, but that doesn't make any sense to me, so maybe I didn't read that.

i dont mean to try to correct anybody, but it is a center muffler becaus resonators are actually just empty chambers. BRM offers magnaflow free flow center mufflers, as they are packed with steel wool for sound absorbtion. weather theyre 6" round or a 9" oval, anything with packing is a muffler. im guessing theyre referred to as resonators here because theyre uncommon enough to safely be able to use the word to better distinguish product specifications? id assume greg would know otherwise.

You might have read somewhere that a shorter muffler = quieter, but whoever posted that had to have been confused or didn't know better.

AH NeiL!

man, you're a life saver. Thanks for the post man.

I still think the 22" resonator is a bit on the loud side esp during long road trips. would 2.25" piping tone it down? Is there a silencer option for the dual tips?

Oh Greg, do you guys just sell the piping w/out the muffler? or vice versa?

the dual-exit muffler used has finished tips that taper inward a good amount and is not meant to be able to accomodate silencers. i can't even think of a practical way to attach some if one were so inclined to make a small pair. I don't think going smaller will quiet it much, but it should help shape the sound to be a little less raspy.

If you think it's too loud, you may want to consider ordering a system without a center muffler and installing a seperately purchased "turbo" style muffler. Dynomax makes a nice sounding, fiberglass packed center in/center out muffler in their Super Turbo line, but it's ~$100 + having a shop jig your system to weld it in.

No.

If you have a 22" resonator, and your car is running properly, there should be no reason for it to be "loud" - in fact, the several that I have personally installed were quieter than stock.

Make sure your hangars are in good condition and you don't have exhaust leaks.

Same here Gregg, I recieved the exhaust and its all bolted up and on the car!

There was a white box that was empty that came with the package, not quite sure what was supposed to be in it. And it only came with 2 new bolts so i had to go get 4 more since it was the original exhast from 92'.

I definately would suggest a the longer resonator for the quiter sound, i have the 14" on mine and its almost too loud.

All in all im very satisfied with the exhaust! And the quality is excellent!!!

Thanks Gregg!

Yep - If ANYONE receives an empty catcon box, that's just used to help take up space in the box - it's "free" packing material, haha...

I am so gonna have to save up for one of those once I get my car running perfectly...gonna be a few weeks before that at the rate it is going though..hopefully by then I will ahve put in enough hours at my job to afford that and new tire atleast..Sounds so nice though and I don't think it will draw cops if the Mississippi redneck can get away with ear splitting exaust on their trucks

Gregg, I was just curious why does the exhaust hang so much lower than the stock exhaust?

It doesn't really hang any lower than any other aftermarket system - Several people don't replace their hangers, which means they're using old, stretched out ones.

Also, reducing some of the stock bends makes it sit a little lower, and 3" pipe in a space designed for a 2" pipe makes it sit a tad lower as well.
