Okay, so my BRM exhaust arrived today and honestly, while I am happy that I bought this catback, I still have mixed feelings about it. I know, bizarre, but read on.
First, the pros-
1. Sound. I can't think of a better sounding exhaust. It's barely louder than my friend's DSM (stock exhaust, 4G63 turbo) on idle, but raises hell as you get on the gas. It has a real nice growl to it, and nowhere in the rev range of the KA does it get raspy. A+
2. Performance. The butt dyno tells me that I actually gained low end torque over the A'pexi N1 I had installed this morning. This fact is supported by the 8% uphill grade I more or less regularly deal with. With the A'pexi, at 3000 RPM in 5th, I could not accelerate. In order to keep from losing speed that low in the powerband, I'd have to shift into 4th. Now I can get up the hill in 5th, though I still need to get into 4th if I wanna get things REALLY moving.
3. Price. $500 shipped to my door for an exhaust of this cailber is a great deal. Much appreciated!
Now, again, keep in mind that overall, I'm pleased with the exhaust. Here's the short list of what I see as problematic.
1. Fitment. See picture below.
The exhaust is crooked and hangs VERY low. A few folks said that while it was low, it wouldn't cause any major problems. Not true. On somewhat bumpy roads, the exhaust bottoms out. Keep in mind that I have a lowered car and 16 year old hangers. Nonetheless, it's a problem I have to fix. Also, either the pipe was welded a few degrees away from where it should be on the cat flange or the hangers are ridiculously long. The exhaust doesn't even come close to the rear sway bar. Compare the picture of the A'pexi exhaust, referencing the sway bar, and the latter picture of the BRM, again, referencing the sway bar. Note that the BRM is inches further from the bar than the A'pexi... interesting, especially considering how that the A'pexi accomodates two pipes from the cat to the muffler better than the BRM does one.

BRM
This is on the same 16 year old chassis, mind you, so no fair blaming ALL the fitment woes on my poor pile of a car. Nonetheless, I'll be taking the car into an exhaust shop and having them fit the BRM piece closer to the chassis in the coming days. (Yes, I like it that much!)
2. Customer serivce. THIS IS NOT GREG'S FAULT. I really needed someone to just answer the phone or my e-mails in his absence. Surely, he's not the only one who know what exhaust is going where and when. Because of some confusion about my shipping address, I REALLY needed a tracking number. I never got one. Now, we all understand that Greg had personal issues to deal with... that's not a problem at all. BRM, as an organization, needs to address customer service in a more cohesive manner. ALL THAT SAID, Greg DID ship my exhaust to the right address, even though Paypal gave him an erroneous one. I am convinced that with Greg standing at the helm, BRM is a 5-star company.
I would buy from BRM again. The craftsmanship on the product is impeccible... I'm sure that some simple chassis work on my part will remedy what few problems I have with this exhaust.
