Red - We use Magnaflow resonators. They're awesome.

Vince - I believe that's a 3", on DammitBobby's car.

Well, I ordered my exhaust early last week, and they said they'd ship it either last friday or this monday. I went somewhere today and planned on calling to get the tracking number when I got home, and wouldn't ya know what I got home there it was sitting on my porch! It looks absolutely gorgeous, and the workmanship looks great. Welds are all great. Thanks greg and everyone at BRM! Can't wait to get it on and see how she fits and sounds! Oh and btw, I got the muffler that in the pics is on the s14 at the bottom, the single tip, with a resonator.

Okay, so my BRM exhaust arrived today and honestly, while I am happy that I bought this catback, I still have mixed feelings about it. I know, bizarre, but read on.

First, the pros-

1. Sound. I can't think of a better sounding exhaust. It's barely louder than my friend's DSM (stock exhaust, 4G63 turbo) on idle, but raises hell as you get on the gas. It has a real nice growl to it, and nowhere in the rev range of the KA does it get raspy. A+

2. Performance. The butt dyno tells me that I actually gained low end torque over the A'pexi N1 I had installed this morning. This fact is supported by the 8% uphill grade I more or less regularly deal with. With the A'pexi, at 3000 RPM in 5th, I could not accelerate. In order to keep from losing speed that low in the powerband, I'd have to shift into 4th. Now I can get up the hill in 5th, though I still need to get into 4th if I wanna get things REALLY moving.

3. Price. $500 shipped to my door for an exhaust of this cailber is a great deal. Much appreciated!

Now, again, keep in mind that overall, I'm pleased with the exhaust. Here's the short list of what I see as problematic.

1. Fitment. See picture below.

The exhaust is crooked and hangs VERY low. A few folks said that while it was low, it wouldn't cause any major problems. Not true. On somewhat bumpy roads, the exhaust bottoms out. Keep in mind that I have a lowered car and 16 year old hangers. Nonetheless, it's a problem I have to fix. Also, either the pipe was welded a few degrees away from where it should be on the cat flange or the hangers are ridiculously long. The exhaust doesn't even come close to the rear sway bar. Compare the picture of the A'pexi exhaust, referencing the sway bar, and the latter picture of the BRM, again, referencing the sway bar. Note that the BRM is inches further from the bar than the A'pexi... interesting, especially considering how that the A'pexi accomodates two pipes from the cat to the muffler better than the BRM does one.

A'pexi

BRM

This is on the same 16 year old chassis, mind you, so no fair blaming ALL the fitment woes on my poor pile of a car. Nonetheless, I'll be taking the car into an exhaust shop and having them fit the BRM piece closer to the chassis in the coming days. (Yes, I like it that much!)

2. Customer serivce. THIS IS NOT GREG'S FAULT. I really needed someone to just answer the phone or my e-mails in his absence. Surely, he's not the only one who know what exhaust is going where and when. Because of some confusion about my shipping address, I REALLY needed a tracking number. I never got one. Now, we all understand that Greg had personal issues to deal with... that's not a problem at all. BRM, as an organization, needs to address customer service in a more cohesive manner. ALL THAT SAID, Greg DID ship my exhaust to the right address, even though Paypal gave him an erroneous one. I am convinced that with Greg standing at the helm, BRM is a 5-star company.

I would buy from BRM again. The craftsmanship on the product is impeccible... I'm sure that some simple chassis work on my part will remedy what few problems I have with this exhaust.

My S14 is down right now, but after 8 months and 6k miles with no other mod than an AEM short ram intake, I have to say my 3" Dual tip SS exhaust is simply amazing sounding. I wish I had gotten the single tip now, and will probably go with that for my S13 as the dual tip just isn't what I was looking for(wanted to keep stock look). The sound and performance is just awesome and I had zero fitment issues.

Hey Greg keep us updated on the S13's new setup. Once my friend buys my HKS Hi-Power off my S13 I'll be getting a 3" from u for it.

Well guys, I've been following the BRM exhausts for the 240's nearly since they became available (thanks for all of the hard work Greg). It seems to now be that time that I'm going to be needing to get a new exhaust system for my car... The old and dying 16 yr old factory exhaust has gone to pieces finally. And now my car won't pass inspection until I get a new exhaust... So it looks like I'm going to be shelling out the dough. I'm just trying to decide which one to get and debating about cost vs longevity of the investment. I know good and well that the stainless steel system will last forever. but I'm working on justifying the extra $100... that and I want to eventually be running a decent turbo setup once I graduate college... so I guess I'll finally get to the question part of my post: how much HP (on a turbo setup) can the 2.5" system handle w/o being detrimental to performance?? For starters I am only looking to put out around 200 to 280 rwhp after turboing (just enough to enjoy myself and still maintain good fuel economy... that and to be able to beat my dad's '98 mustang cobra hehe)... so any comments would be appreciated! And thanks again everyone for making my experience here at NICO a great one and I hope to continue many intellectual conversations with all of you!

If the systems might be up in March or April I may be able to make due until then... Mostly because I really do love this system.

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING GREG! and I hope that things go smoothly and safely for you, your company, and your family!

Wow Greg you have my sympathies. I wouldn't want the hassles that you are experiencing with this product. I know the exausts are good, I've seen them in person. I also know you personally and I know that you are a good man. I know that when I buy my exhaust from you, that you are not profiting from it personally but that you are allowing me to support NICO by buying parts for my car. It really irritates me to see these few people on here publicly stating their problems the way they are instead of privately allowing you to resolve the problem.

I wanted a full SS system because my car sees winter duty and I plan to own it for a good number of years. I also wanted a very quiet exhaust note. I simple went with the 22" resonator and painted it with ceramic VHT paint to insure that it will never corrode.

I cannot wait to see the redesigned systems. Hopefully, i will be able to get a 3" Dual tip, contemplating running w/o a resonator....

Anyone have a 2.5" w/ the 14" resonator?any feedback?? appreciate it
14" will be fine, Especially with the dual tips. I have a 2.5" system with a 20" resonator. It sounds great, and isn't very bad on the highway, even with a quicker rear differential, and gutted interior.

Received my 3" SS Single Tip last Friday, quickly took out the old stock system, the right bolt on the cat was all rusted and wouldn't move so we had to cut it off!

Anyways put the new cat back on the next afternoon, resonator to the muffler didn't close to well when you tightening it. We think it was the small bolt that came with it. So we went out grab some muffler sealant, and new, bigger, and stronger bolts and it solved the problem.

The only hard part was taking out my old rusted one but the new catback looks nice, sounds nice, welding are superb, good customer service, and overall a great catback system. Thanks Greg and team.

I actually ended up replacing my original rubber hangers. They were probably as old as my car (13 years) and were very stretched and some were actually starting to tear.

At any rate, I absolutely love the exhaust. Fitment is great and sound is a nice, raspy rumble.

Hey greg,

A while back I bought a 2.5" ss with 14" ss resonator and dual tips. I've been really pleased with the sound and the look. However, shortly after the install the forward gasket began leaking. At first it didn't bother me, but now it seems to be really leaking. Can you send me another gasket? If so, how much?

Thanks again!

all right im really thinking about it now but have some questions. one would you beable to angle it i know some of you guys dont like that but i kinda do. 2 i really dont need a resonator. i kinda like the noise lol and flow. 3 will a 3 in fit on the stock cat or would it be better to go with 2.5 for fitment. also did you say 4"in exit on that muffler? im getting a job very soon so if you can get back to me on some of those ?s id like that. btw the welds look real good from the pics and a really good price. also it goes to nico and i like you guys alot your really nice to new guys thanks.

greg, i should be ordering one sometime this year
zanetran wrote:okay, got the cat back on.

fitment was a huge problem jesus................ i reused the old rubber hangers but the cat back just wont go into all 3 of them. if i get the middle one on then the 2 hangers near the rear bumpers wont slip on. IT DOES NOT FIT LIKE A OEM CATBACK DONT EVEN SAY THAT. I took it to a muffler shop to get a lil advice, i told them how i got it. and they said that the fit ment is horrible so horrible that they dont know how to fix it without cutting 1 inch off in the pipe. they said that would solve all the problems. buti chose not too cause it would cost 45 dollars.

Okay once i get a camera ill take pics..

I had to saw off a part of the cat back to get it to fit properly.. this is horrible.

I thought fitment would be better but i guess not.

It's not longer close to the ground but still to close for my taste. Im getting a camera asap because of this problem.
bro, just call greg and talk to him about it, along with posting pics.. he is great to deal with, and will make everything better

Why would you have a fitment problem? It's gonna fit the same way as if your car was stock.

If you are worried about ground clearance, then don't. It's obviously gonna sit lower than stock, but you are on springs. If you aren't slammed on coilovers you have nothing to worry about.

sometimes i think you should stop using the internet.

BRM Exhausts unfortunately have a history of not fitting well, in particular hanging (at least used to) excessively low between the rear wheels. On my UNlowered coupe I would scrape my brm at the top of my driveway if I didnt drive up it just right, and it got worse once I installed coilovers.

I know the rear muffler's angle of rotation as well as hanger placement would vary slightly between each unit that got built, but they all generally had the same "thats probably good enough" pipe routing and it was simply not tight enough in proximity to the underside of the car.

also, no aftermarket exhaust fits 'as if your car was stock', but my watanabe hasnt scraped in the same places my brm did and I just lowered the car a little more recently.

All the pics I have seen of BRM fitment showed that it hugs the underside of your car as well or better than any other aftermarket systems.

If you want huge ground clearance, you should either keep the stock one, or go custom.
