Hey guys,

My exhaust has developed a really loud/annoying leak as of recent, and I've been looking into replacements. The leak appears to be just back of the cat, and thus, a cat-back exhaust would seem to be the perfect solution to the problem. Criteria? Relatively quiet, with a nice, refined note, and good looks (but not a huge tip or anything, simple and close to stock looking)

With that in mind, I've come up with the HKS R2 dual-tip exhaust from Enjuku Racing. Seems to meet all of my criteria, but if anyone has pics or advice other than that that's already been posted (I've searched), I'd appreciate it . . . thanks, in advance!

Oh, and price is a major factor too, and this appears to be the cheapest exhaust that meets all of my criteria. If you have any other suggestions though, I'd love to hear them.

if you don't go for the HKS, personally I would get the Apex'i N1 Dual tip, I love the sound of that exhaust ;)

Heh, yeah I saw that too. How quiet is the BRM compared to the HKS? Anyone have a comparison? Rough idea? :-)

No comparison.

BRM system with a resonator is much deeper and quieter... Less raspy, more beefy-sounding. It's not the sound for everyone, but I like it. HKS makes a quality system though.

Make sure whatever you buy has billet flanges, not stamped steel (cheap) like the GReddy.

Hmm, you've got me wondering now. :-) What can you do for a NA KA24E, cat-back, 2.25" or 2.5" piping (my guess is 2.25 would be better, but I'll let you choose, heh, the Hitman knows best), resonator, stainless steel, and factory appearance (dual 2.5" tips is what I think would be best there, unless you have other suggestions), shipped to zip 06776 . . . if you don't mind. ;-)

2.25 SS w/resonator and duals? That makes the price go up somewhat, but still reasonable.

$430 + $70 + $20 + $45 = $565 shipped to your door. :)

Hmm . . . even just the 2.25 is about the same as the HKS. I'm cheap (out of necessity) and obviously poor enough to be considering an OEM replacement from NAPA for $230. :-) So if I go aftermarket, it looks like it will be the HKS system, I guess . . . thanks for the quote though, I'll keep it in mind if I ever have more disposable income compared to what I have now. :-)

BTW, I didn't mean to imply that BRM's pricing is bad, as it's still a good deal, I'm just poor . . . trust me, if I had the money, I'd probably go that route. Thanks again for the quote!

Stamped steel flanges are cheap and poor quality. Sad that they have to cut costs there to pay for their glossy magazine ads.

Glad to help, elbles - If you weren't in CT i'd recommend the aluminized system to save $100...

Hey Greg, have ya'll considered spraying down the aluminized exhausts in some silicone high temp paint? Thats what I did with my aluminized system. Its an aluminum colored paint and if it chips, I can just sand that spot and spray it again. Its like 5 bucks a can and holds up just fine to the temperatures. Sure you have to check it every once in a while but it might help people find a more economical alternative to SS while still getting a good quality system that will last in the salty areas.

No real reason to. Hot-dipped "aluminized" steel gives a continuous coating and has proved satisfactory in a number of applications, particularly where sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, or other sulfur compounds are present (e.g., car exhausts).

About 50% of corrosion starts on the inside...

If they wanted to, they can - I'll even knock off $5 so they can buy a can. :)

haha

the stamped flanges are pretty crappy.

if I remember right, most of the Nissan factory systems used a billet flange...

stamped sounds like a good way to have it get bent and start leaking if it gets banged a few good times or just after a good amount of time on.

Heh, yeah, non-stainless steel throughout our New England winters doesn't go over too well. :-)

I've pretty much decided on the HKS, especially after looking at the exhaust tonight. Right at the flange that connects the cat-back portion to the cat, the pipe has just broken off. Clean break, nothing connecting it. However, the flange on the cat side looks rusted to hell, as well as the bolts holding the cat-back side on; any suggestions for getting these things off? :-) PB Blaster to hell, let it sit for a few hours, are the thoughts that I have . . . if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!
