New EX35 Owner, Initial Impressions (and problems)

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi All,

My first post here, glad to have found this forum, lots of useful information.

I leased my EX35 Journey/Premium about 3 weeks ago and have been quite pleased with it so far.

I find the seating to be comfortable, the handling to be remarkably good, and am enjoying the stereo system a great deal as well.

A few early concerns (in case anyone has had a similar experience, and perhaps knows of a solution for any of these):

1) my front cup-holder lid is stuck, and cannot completely open. It closes flush, but when I try to open it, it will only open about 60% of the way back. I've tried reaching in behind it, and can't find any obvious obstruction. I have tried using a bit of force but it feels like it will break before whatever is blocking it gives way.

2) the bluetooth system for placing phone calls seems extremely cumbersome. In my previous Infiniti, a 2006 G35X I was able to quickly record voicetags for numbers I might call frequently, and then calling one of them was as simple as pressing the phone button on the steering wheel and saying "Dial Ian, Mobile". That would immediately dial the appropriate number. With this new system, I have not been able to figure out how to create Voicetags, and to dial a number from the phonebook takes half a dozen steps. The manual mentions creating voicetags for vehicles equipped with Nav, but I don't have that option, and the steps outlined there don't seem to relate to my car.

3) I'm also irritated about the lack of a tonneau cover, but I guess that's my own fault for not doing more research ahead of time. I'm about to lease another vehicle for an employee, so I'll see if I can get the dealer to throw one in for me.

Good luck on the tonneau cover.
We bought a EX and few month later bought the FX from same dealership, same sale person and no they will not throw anything for you.
They offer discount which is still very expensive.

This is the forth Inifinity and I find the Bluetooth phone to be useless. This is the main reason for gettng my wife a new car as she is always on the phone. The receiption stinks.

The Nav system is about 2 to 3 years out of date. My cell phone does a better job. Interstate 10 was widened 2 years ago and all of my GPS's have picked up that change except the EX 35 purchased two monhts ago.

I find the Bluetooth works very well with my Droid.

I agree the navigation system is at least a couple of years behind. I think Infinity should offer free upgrades since they can't seem to stay current anyway.

And I feel your pain about the tonneau cover. Seems incredibly cheap of them not to include it.

I bet you there is something stuck under the door. It can be very difficult to get what ever is stuck in there out. Depending on what it is of course.

There are some functions that the new nav software excels at, then there are some limitations when paired with certain devices.

The bluetooth works great in my EX2008. Crystal clear connection between the phone and the EX. That's when I'm in the City and the cellphone connection is good. I think the problem a lot of people have is when they're on the road in outlying areas and their phone is not in a good cell zone. It's the phone and the provider that determine the call quality, not the car. The car just provides a "handshake." Disable the bluetooth and use the phone standalone, you'll probably find the connection is just as poor in some locations.

i have a 2010 ex35 journey premium. the reverse gear backup camera/sonar system worked well for two months and then the colors went haywire and the image shifted on the screen and the image is useless in the rain. the dealer and infiniti customer service have nothing to offer as a fix. any suggestions? thanks

It sounds like the camera (located to the left of the license plate) got whacked by something. See if it looks crooked or loose. If so, it could be replaced but probably at your cost since it wouldn't be covered under product defect.

bluetooth has nothing to do with reception so you can drop that whine. why did you not notice the alleged problem with the nav when you test drove it? and how exactly does a widened road affect navigation anyway unless on ramps and off ramps changed? when I first I first got my ex I had problems with the bluetooth. they were fixed by getting rid of my iphone and READING THE MANUAL. all is well now bluetooth wise

Took my 2008 Infiniti EX 35 back after two months due to noisy steering, have to wait about 6 weeks for steering to be installed. Still some noises when making a hard turn. The biggest problem right now is this vehicle is not staying on the road, i constantly have to battle with the steering to keep it straight especially on uneven roads, my other SUV and Van does not have same behaviour. Did test drive with the dealership and was told the tyres are the cause, I couldn't beleive that, vehicle is just 38,000km on the tyres. Infiniti offered to bear part cost of the tires. This is crap for such a lovely vehicle!
