New EX35 on the way...what do I need to know?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi guys,

Found this forum after ordering my EX35 (Black/Wheat, NAV, Custom Leather), some good info here. Hoping to pick up my car this week, so I want to ask the experts what known issues I need to look out for. So far, I've read:

- leaky sunroof- bad fuel pump- problems with airbag sensor (recall)- rattle in the dash

any other issues or recalls I missed? For the airbag recall, should I get this looked at with the dealer right away?

BTW, we were going to get a Lexus IS250 but walked into the Infiniti dealer and walked out with a EX35 The improvements in the interior, features offered, performance, and the sweet deal offered was just too good to pass up.

Hey there, welcome to NICOclub! I am actually NOT the Mod for this forum, but I am sure he will give you a warm greeting as well. We are glad to have you here in the EX35 Forum!

You shouldn't have anything to worry too much about with your new EX. I am sure the dealer will have the Air Bag thing taken care of, but it is probably worth mentioning. Other than that, keep an eye out, and enjoy the new ride when you get it! You made a great decision and you will love it!

Welcome to the FORUM!

The 2nd airbag recall is not out yet(1st was on FEB 08). Most dealership here in USA are aware of the 2nd airbag recall. They told me to wait a notice in the mail.

So far no Leaky Sunroof for me.Yes, fuel pump were replaced 2x. The 1st replacement ended up a bad unit.Rattle is starting to show or hear (search for steering vibration issue). It`s actually an intermittent vibration which is hard to reproduce.zer...ation

---------If you didn`t get an HID then start searching for one, bec. the stock bulb in a projector headlight (low beam) is a JOKE.

Might as well start looking for a nice Allweather mat or lining too.

Over all, the EX35 is a great SMOOTH (RELAXING) car to drive! No contest...

I agree, you will want either the OEM Infiniti rubber mats, or the Weathertech floor liners, especially being in Canada.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys...

My EX comes with the HID option, remind me again why it sucks?

The dealer is also throwing in some mats, but don't think it's OEM tho.

Welcome to the board and congrats on the EX!

We had the same choice I was thinking of the IS250 too. In the end it was the extra 97 hp of the EX over the IS that made me decide. If the IS350 came in the AWD it would have been a tougher choice.

My deal included winter mats, cargo organizer and cargo mat. So far thewinter mats and cargo mat were OEM. Very satisfied. Cargo organizer we found out later was exclusive to the States so the dealer is just offering me free oil changes (4-6) in exchange coz they felt bad not getting it.

When you get a chance post some pics!

Welcome, vibes ... it's great to have another GTA member on-board!!

Sorry I wasn't the first to welcome you, but it looks like the rest of the "gang" noticed you soon enough and besides, some of us have to work for a living (even if the Government employees get Nov 11th off)!!

Thanks David, I'm feeling right at home in these forums already.

I'm picking up the car this Thursday...does anyone have any tips on what I need to check/inspect when I pick up the new car?

Exterior scratches and dents. Make sure you go around in every corners.

Leather scratches (deep ones) or dash scratches. Shifter knob (silver part) this

one gets scratch often. Every time I service my car, I always put something to

cover it. If you bring your girlfriend or wife, make sure you don`t forget

her when you drive off the dealership with your new babe.

Don't sign the final agreement till you inpect the car.

If you do find anything ask for it to be repaired (probably not the same day) and have it written somewhere.

Ask to meet service manager and sales manager and get their cards just in case.

Good tips guys...has there been any recalls (other than the airbag sensor)?

To the GTA'ers...which dealer has the best service if I want to take my EX in? Do they wash the car and vacuum the interior like audi?

Where did you buy? I am a new owner (3 wks) from Yorkville Infiniti (Toronto).Very pleased with the sales team and loving the car after many Saabs and Audi. Haven't been to their service yet, but I am booked next week to swap out my wheels for after market 17 " rims with Blizzaks for the winter. Stock 18" wheels with Dunlops on right now.

I'd be interested in knowing how your service turns out...let us know!

They have built a beautiful new facility at Parliament and Front Street (downtown Toronto). Not sure if it will be open next week. They are also renaming to Downtown Infiniti.

I'll have to look out for it next time I'm in the area...

I'm hoping to use my A/S this winter before getting some winters next year.

BT: what options did you get with your EX? Glad to hear Yorkville service was great (they should be!), hope they gave you a good deal

I happily dumped my 2006 IS 250 for my fully loaded, AWD EX 35. Best purchase I've made. Cars right before the EX-35 were a 2003 BMW X5 and a 2004 VW Touareg V8.

The EX 35 is the fairest of them all.

Wow...impressive list....I was sold on the performance/feature/value....only thing left to see is how it holds up over time and how the servicing is

You will need 3 things. A good teeth whitener, a pen and a little notebook with lots of pages.

You have to get your teeth whitened because from now on you'll have an ear to ear smile on your face every time you drive your car or you see your car or just think about your car. You have to have nice white teeth with a smile like that.

You need a pen and the note book to collect all the phone numbers from the all kind of hot chicks after they seeing and stopping you in the car.

Nice,

Don't forget pictures. We love pictures here @ Nico.

I forgot to mention about the energy drink. You'll need those regularly. Because you'll wake up at the middle of the night go to your garage and drool all over your car. You'll find all the excuses to go out and drive it. You'll notice you end up offer your service to your wife to get groceries when she is cooking. It will take your 20 minutes tripp for anhour because you'll find a longest wa to get there and come back. YOu'll need the energy drink to stay awake.

I know that's what I did, still do it sometimes after 2 years. My wife knows it too. Every time I find a lame excudses to drive and tell her I'll go pick up a light bulb or whatever. She has those grinch smiles(I know what you doing) on her face. She never said a word tho.

LOL

Actually it does bring attention to the males too. They are asking questions just about everything. HP, torque, cargo space ,0-60, 1/4 mile, mpg Yeap get ready for the questions. Thre is the reason why the sEX contains the word EX.

I hate to interrupt the frivolity , but besides what's already been said, a few items do come to mind:

1. I would try moving the power telescopic steering column in and out, listening carefully for any grinding noises.

2. If you have a light-coloured interior (stone or wheat), make sure it's been cleaned. (Mine had been in the showroom for a month and the dealer didn't clean the interior prior to delivery.)

3. Take delivery during daylight hours if at all possible.

4. If you have locking wheel nuts, make sure you have the appropriate adapter.

5. Double-check that you have any "extra" parts you negotiated as part of the deal (extra mats, roofrack crossbars, etc).

6. Make sure you have the entire package of manuals and the iPod adapter cable (likely inside the centre console).

7. They should have an Infiniti Delivery Checklist ... ensure all items are done and make sure you get a copy.

8. Call them ahead of time and ask that they untie the block heater plug and run it to the outside, as part of their PDI ... if you want to use the block heater. (Don't know about the GTA, but Ottawa is forecasted to have freezing rain soon!!)

Maybe others can think of more ...

Cheers,David

awesome list, thanks David. Quick question about the blockheater, if they run it outside, will it always stick out of the grill?

I would think so, but I don't plan to use mine, so haven't unravelled it.

Make sure everything works. Probably impossible on D day. But don't let the saleguy rush you out the door. And don't sign the deal either until you've at least visually inspected the car.

-check everything motorized like windows, moonroof, side mirrors, seats etc.

-check lghts, interior and exterior lights also dont forget cargo bay lights.

-make sure jack and spare tire are under the cargo bay. believe it or not I've read some internet stories that found out too late! (Not Infiniti but make sure as well)

-inspect leather seats thoroughly, some scratches on on corners or underside can be hard to see and will be hard to prove that you didnt do it.

-inspect engine bay, probably not a major thing but have the salesguy explain where the dipstick is, washer fluid, batt etc etc to get familiar.

-inspect exterior paint. chrome parts around doors are prone to scratches, especially if it was on the showroom floor a where people go in and out all the time without any care, depending on how picky you are you might let this one go. check entire car for any scratches or stone chips (probably none).

-last but not least check if you have gas. Either full or enough to get you home. True story a friend of mine ran empty on D day on a used car because he didnt check. Being an Infiniti expect it to be full, otherwise ask for it.

Finally if you dont have a cargo liner included let me know (wink wink) I have an extra one for sale for a bargain!

Just picked up my EX guys, the process took an hour, mostly because I was going over the awesome list you guys gave me.

A couple of things I found:

- scratched shift knob (weird, anyone else had this?) but the dealer agreed to replace with new one

- slight scratch on the paint on the passenger side by the door handle, very light scratch but it bothers me...dealer agreed to fix it

Other than that, everything else is good....oh and it drives SMOOTH...I have no clue how to use half the gadgets yet but I'm loving the car. I put on 60km tonight and the dealer is 6 km from my house

I'll try to take some pics and post them soon.

Glad somebody mentioned the telescoping steering problem. One dealer service manager told me 3 out of 10 brand new EX's have that problem before they're even driven out of the dealership !

Are the wheel locks standard from Infiniti? I wish Nissan would have included wheel locks for the 20's on my Murano or even my Armada w/ 20's.
