got a new eprom chip, pretty sure the one in there is oem now, i won't get to work on her until spring, but when i pull the ecu if it has oem chip, what do i do with it? i searched the forums but didn't find anything.

i think i'm supposed to use my solder stick and remove the chip from the board, and then solder in a new socket to stick the new eprom into? where would i find the new socket piece?

my last Z was AshSpec chipped already so i didn't need to do anything

If you are not experienced with electronic circ boards, I don't recommend de soldering the eprom yourself.

If you do decide to gamble, here are a few tips.
-You need to be sure 100% ALL the solder on the legs of the 28 pins are free. I repeat ALL the joints together.
There are very fine circ. tracings under the chip and can be easily ripped out.

-The stock chip aslo has "glue" under it, which makes it a pain to release the eprom.
-Once that is done soldering in the socket is simple, be sure to align the marker tabs/slot in the proper direction.

-Those sockets are cheap like less than $0.50, can be purchased at and electronics repair shop. They are 28 pins.
I can give you one if you want.

sure! if you have any female sockets, i'll take one! if i don't do the solder, who will? do people typically send the whole ecu away?

Typically, yes with down time, or do a core exchange with less down time. Like I said the hardest part is removing the stock chip. I'm sure a TV repair shop can do it. I've done a few here, but way too busy to offer my assistance. Pm me and I'll through a socket in the mail.
