Get under it and check major bolts for signs that they were removed and replaced. Motor mounts, transmission bolts, wiring plugs etc. If they are still covered in years-old crud he's being disingenuous. Have the compression checked too. If the motor's compression is low the milage may not be.

QFT!

Do this^, its probably the only way youll be able to tell if the motor was taken out. Whether the motor has miles he specified i dont think can every be tested, just take it with a grain of salt.

Bring a gun when you meet him and hold it up to his face when you ask him. Make sure the safety is off and it's loaded too.

Also make sure to bring a big friend to hold him while you ask about it.

Im thinking about after doing the compression test do tear him down on his car and inform him of the KBB price for his car which is he is selling for 3500 but the kbb book price is 1750 would it be ok to shoot him that price this is my first car so i just wanna get everything squared away and not get a car that gonna run for 3 weeks and gimp out on me

3500 is way too high for a car that old with that kind of mileage. Check our classifieds, you can find cars with much lower miles and often times with a good amount of mods for that price.

As far as checking for the motor, if seems you've got the idea.

Check on zilvia as well, but an S13 with that kind of mileage should still only price around 2000-2200 if it's in good shape body and drivetrain wise. Keep your eyes on the classifieds here as well as on Zilvia.net, I just checked today and they have at least 3-4 in or very close (like within $500) of your price range, all of them with lower miles, some of them with nice mods.

dude price is all about what someone is willing to pay for the car. ive always wanted a coupe and when i found a clean coupe for 3000 i jumped on it because coupes are rare here in South Carolina. Also the price for a 240 is pretty much always going to be more than kbb value because everyone wants one and can fetch a higher price due to simple supply and demand. With no proof of the motor being swapped i would talk him down on the price.
