hi, im new here and have a few questions. (i tried searching but, like every new forum its complicated). help greatly appreciated.

i drive about 60 freeway miles a day from home, to work and back. i have an s2000 which i am putting IMO way too many miles. i like to get a beater to DD but, that also hs potential to perform. why im thinking to go 240. (i had one in the past but, i sold it. regreting it too)

i have a friend with a 240 who is willing to let it go for dirt cheap. several hundred.

the body looks good and the interior is decent. the main problem is the engine (KA). when changing out the plugs he over torqued it (not sure thats the right choice of words but eh) meaning there is no spark and it only runs on three cylinders. he said i would need a new engine.

now, since i bought i house recently and with the s2000 and its insureance rate i dont have much money left. i am willing to slowly fix it but, i dont want to burn a whole in my pocket.

the engine being the main issue, how much would you say a used KA would cost me? and install?

ive never worked on a car before but, this will be fun and it will give me something to do. it will not be an over night project but, id like to learn as much as possible.

or simply be honest and tell me im well over my head!!!

extra details- i will purchase and have someone do the install (as much as id like to follow a DIY, i dont have the tools)- everything i can, i will do

IMO 240's are expensive, and if you are paying a shop to do the work, it will cost a lot more. maybe worth it if you had the spare cash but for just a mildly performing DD... i dunno.

you could probably replace the KA fairly cheap, because you could swap just the motor.. but going SR/RB/VQ/LS/etc would start to be far too expensive. maybe KA-T, but again you'd still have to rebuild / buy a new motor.

250-500 for the motor. i charge people 750 when i install ka's. 500 for the motor and 250 for the install. but you should see ezactly whats up with the current motor, if all it needs is a helicoil then do that

There are spark plug thread repair kits at autozone.

Save your money and keep the KA running for $20. Build another engine then drop it in when the time is right.

Remember to put a lot of grease on the tap when you thread it in the spark plug hole, it'll catch the shavings and keep them out of your engine. A vacuum cleaner with a small tube on it helps too.

Sorry to thread-jack but OP prob has the same question. Around how much would does it cost to rebuild a ka?

depends on what your putting in, im doing a ka-t build right now... im honing the cylinders, new piston rings, main and rod bearings, and new valve springs... i have a hookup at nissan, so all the internal parts only cost me $300 plus some gaskets and tubo gaskets...

i got my turbo and elbow for $100, and the ka turbo manifold for $50, the sr injectors all four for $100 at 11ohms... i got the motor for $250 w/ p/s, a/c, alternator, dist., intake manifold, exhaust manifold, auto transmission... everything... when im done including fluids it will cost me just under a $1000
