Yesterday my motor started making a loud ticking noise. The noise stays the same at idle and when I rev the motor and it doesn't go away when the motor gets to operating temperature.

What could be going on here?? Is it a lifter not filling with oil?Any suggestion would be welcome.

My main worry is harming the engine while driving with the ticking.

if you're really boostin and getting 425HP out of the VQ like your sig says you may have worn out a lifter or valve spring. Now you're getting a tick from the cams smacking the lifter.i didn't understand your first paragraph to well. does the tick speed up with engine speed? a new lifter with a heavy duty spring would be the long term fix for that.that motor also had troubles with a tensioner on the timing chain. i read that it loses pressure and the chain begins to 'slap' the cover. typically that would go away after warm up unless it is completely failed.could also just be an injector

wow, i just read the VQ's don't have hydraulic lifters. News flash to me, I guess I'm still thinking VG instead of VQ. So scratch that above.Must be the injectors or coil packs...something to that affect.
