So in the latest Car & Driver there is an article about the FX50, which uses a 5.0 390 horsepower engine. It is ABOUT time Infiniti caught up. I can only hope that there is an early issue M45 with this 390 ponies and that we see the 2010 Q50 with that motor, throw a Turbo on it while your there. MB, BMW, Lexus have all gone to near 400 ponies. If you do not get 100% plus there is now way to sell V8 cars. The sales of LS460's are 40% off target right now, I don't think that is due to the new design, the 90 more horsepower....I think people are just not grabbing up V8's anymore like they did.

Well at least Nissan has a motor in place now that is competitive.

There will be an M50 this fall as a 2009 model.

The even more notable improvement is the 7 speed automatic transmission.

ya they finally woke up from the 80s and 90s! Finally we get more than 5 gears in a q45 or what ever its name will be one day.

I forgot to mention that, good point 7 speed is totally required, they skipped right over the 6! My dad's LS460 has 8!! Glad to hear the M will have that motor shortly, but really I'm seriously wondering about the potential of this car category in the future.

My new goal, get a corporate gas card, than who cares!!!!

Corporate gas from BillG? I think not! Not unless he buys Exxon.

For the typical quarter mile, 3 gears is enough [until you exceed 100 mph].Divability and fuel economy can use another 2 gears. Beyond that you just add complexity and expense to develop finer and finer gear ranges.

If you keep a vehicle long enough to pay to replace a transmission [or two]whether you pay $3,000 or $6,000 [for replacement service] gets important. BUT if the more expensive unit saves 50 gallons per year over 10 years it can be a WASH as long as gas stays under $6.

The more expenive transmission gets added to price of vehicle unknown to you and delt with in depreciation.

So as long as you don't need a replacement you are money ahead, but as we known many cars are traded just before the transmission goes and the burden shifted to the used car buyer who finds out the hardway what transmission's cost.

AS IS can be an expensive lesson!

I agree that with gearing done the way Nissan has done it on the G35, there is a need for an additional gear or two. I have groused on several occasions that the G just doesn't settle down on the interstate... running at about 3000 RPM at 80. My theory is that they are trying to keep the RPMs at a sweet spot in the torque curve (or for emissions?) during acceleration - but the car really suffers at speed...

Yeah, the RE5 ratios with the VQ45DE and the differential raito ends up being way too busy on the highway at cruising speeds.

I fer damned sure don't want no stinkin' 7-speed, if the Lex-us has 8!!!

And how many speakers will the new Infin-tee have? I hear-ed that the Lex-us has 27 - If the Infini-tee don't have at least 28, I DON'T WANT IT!!!

What kind of inteer-reer does new Infini-tee have? If it don't have genuine free-range birds-eye burled murtlewood accent strips like the Lex-us, I DON'T WANT IT!!!
