Just wanted to post pics of my new aluminum driveshaft. I got it from The Driveshaft Shop in NY. http://www.driveshaftshop.com i believe. Anyway its quite an amazing peice of work, the cleanest welds i've ever seen that were done by hand. I weighed it at a unreal 12lbs, where as the stock one weighed in at 28lbs. Also it alowes a 15-20 degree twist vs the 5 degree of the stock unit. Anyway i hardly ever get something for my car that 90% of nico's members don't already have so i figured i'd post a pic or two, or three...sorry for the quality of the pics.

I knew that was gonna be asked...to my door in Canada it came to around $550USD ($450USD before shipping/brokerage fee in my case)...not too bad IMO...and it was at my door within a week of ordering, very good service...

is it ballanced or did they just trust that the welder didnt put more weld on any given part of the shaft..just curious....i dont really like rotating parts to shake much from being out of balance...also what kind of alluminum did they use..it looks nice though

Aluminum is T6, and its pre-balanced...here's some cool info on it, quote from they're site;

"The Drive shaft shop is proud to announce the introduction of Techna-pulse a revolutionary new process. What we can now do is attach Aluminum to steel (remember all the old jokes) Now, how this is achieved is the steel part is slid inside an aluminum tube and an electro-magnetic pulse is shot around the part. This is not a crimping or a gluing affect but a complete molecular bond that is done with out any heat affected zone. When this process is done the bond is stronger than the weakest material, the fact that there is no heat affected zone (like with welding) means the aluminum tube will be stronger (remaining at T6)."

does anyone have any experience with using a lightweight driveshaft with a lightwieght flywheel?I have heard rumors that it makes the setup a little hard to drive, as it wants to get squirrely all the time..

Dont get me wrong though--i still want one---squirrelly is COOL.

Fits good, although i had to trim off a half inch of the dust cover since its larger in diameter than the stock one...now if i can get the old oil seal out of the back of the transmission i'll get to drive her...

i have a lightweight driveshaft, flywheel, and crank pulley. compared to my 91 celica, only other manual car i really know, just starting off in first or reverse is a little different. the celica i can jstu lift off the clutch pedal to get it moving, the 240 i need to give it gas. i also have a spec stage 3 clutch and dampner removed onthe 240 so that could have something to do with it. jsut like anythig you get used to it. i love the way my car feels. it doesnt get squrrielly unless im giving over 3/4 throttle in 1st and 2nd sometimes 3rd

reason for getting the car moving with no gas on the celicz--inertia on the fly and other drivetrain parts. The 240 has to have more inertia put on it via the gas pedal to keep it spinning when the wieght of the crank and transmission get engaged to it.

But you say its easy to drive--hows the acceleration compared to stock?
