HA!!

I allready miss Dattebayo

But seriously, the drifting skill-set does not apply to real world driving.I wouldn't be wrong to say about 95% of drifting has NOTHING to do with driving like a normal person.

About 70% of the Circut racing skill-set can't be translated either. Some of the world's cleanest drivers (cleanest = best record) couldn't drive competativley if their lives depended on it.

Oh and JDM stickers FTMFL!

Hell, no performance driving event makes you a better driver on the street. If you're staying within the posted speeds, you're never going fast enough to take advantage of your supposed skills. Also, you've got little idea of the laws of a roadway and how to interact with others cars.

Sorry, kids, but your chubby for drifting doesn't mean you're as skilled as say, a CDL holder.
Meh, I would have killed some chicks dog had it not been for what auto crossing I have done.

Having the confidence/skill to control your car in a panic or emergency situation counts IMO.

To the OP, you should know that ANYTHING JDM makes you at least 10 points cooler. Instant street cred yo.

imo. knowing the limits of your car and what it will do in a worst case scenerio is good and not just for going fast but for accident avoidance and such. knowing the line where your car crosses to the out of control side can keep you in control. but thats just what i think.

Oh, so its like drifting.

Can someone get the OP some qualudes and a can of spray air so he'll feel better? Society adapts alters and changes words, phrases, symbols & logos out there all the time. Don't believe me? Go ride through San Fran with some form of rainbow on your car and let me know how that works out. Or better yet plaster this Hindu symbol on your car and watch the hilarity begin.

FWIW I walked out to my S13 on my 40th birthday this year to find that my wife had put a kareha on it as a joke. I laughed about it all the way to work.

Yea your post reflects his feelings. But to anyone that doesnt think that track driving whether it be drifting, circuit. autox, time attack, etc... doesnt give you valuable skills on the real roads is lost. Take some driving classes from skip barber and argue with the instructor about that. I have real experience on the milleville track in their f-1 series mazdas. And at VIR two years ago I took the mazdaspeed two day course for beginners. I learned a hell of a lot and I recommend it to anyone that would like to be a better driver...on the street or otherwise.

To answer the OP's first post...I'm guessing it's for the same reason that I did it 7 years ago when I got out of the Navy.

AS A JOKE.

But, the thing is, is once people learned what it was, it made the joke that much better.

It was also kinda rare to see one back then. At the time I had mine in Davenport, Iowa, there were only three other cars in Scott county that had one, and one of those guys is a member here...ballzdeep1.9, and he ultimately got his Wakaba from me.

It's just something that everyone who is into JDM has to have now, that's all...most of them may not even know what the heck those things are even for.

Would I rock a Wak on my car if I were in the states now. No. Would I laugh at the people that do have them on their cars without knowing the true meaning of them...HELL YES I WOULD.

Attended our local meet last evening and there was a car there I hadn't seen before, and wouldn't you know it, it was the guy that got me all fired up about this in the first place. I walked over and asked him about his marker, he had the wakaba in his rear window. He said that he got his license to go 12's at atco, and they gave him that as proof of being a new licensed 12 second drag racer. Now mind you this is a 96 accord 4 door with a stock motor. I chuckled and walked away...people are that ignorent to things nowadays. I didnt need to say anything because all of his friends took over flaming him for his precious statement. I didnt feel like hurting the kids feelings.

I did however tell the people that I knew what they were, they were clueless and two of the three guys took them off and threw them in the Taco Bell dumpster....haha great.

Nice nice. If someone doesn't even have a clue what its about then I have a problem with it, no matter what it might be. Like these bucketheaded morons that have a "Powered By Acura" windshield banner on their RSX/Teg/Legend. Idiots.

On a similar note, what is with this fascination for "The Shocker"? Do people think its something new? I've known about/used it when a lot of people on here were probably playing with their own turds but never thought about advertising it on my ride.

I guess its like Ambrose Bierece said," There is nothing new under the sun but there are lots of old things we don't know."
