Worked on the car all day long today to get rid of that damn 4500 rpm no power.
I installed the Walbro fuel pump.... that didn't help. Still boost's, then falls on its face at 4500 rpms.
I pulled the ecu codes and got a code 34, Detonation Sensor. Here is the story behind that one..... When I was tracing the wires before the motor went in, I noticed in the FSM that on the CA side of the wiring harness there were 2 wires that went to the Knock sensor. But when I traced out the wires on the KA there was nothing on the 2 harnesses that went to the knock sensor. I followed the srswap wiring diagram and it mentioned nothing about a knock sensor, so I left it alone. I had a feeling that it needed to be hooked up, but didn't know where. I just had an extra plug on the lower transmission harness that had nothing to plug into by the fuse box. I asked Jon about it and we decided that it has to be an automatic transmission plug.
Guess what? That was the connector from the knock sensor. I pulled back the tape on the CA harness plug by the battery (big plug) and found the 2 wires for the knock sensor. One is white, the other black. Connected up the wires, checked the ecu, and the code was gone. It was showing a code 55 which is everything is A-OK.
I was pretty happy, I thought the problem had been solved! Took the car out on a test drive, got out to a open stretch of road out off the subdivision, and gave it some gas.....
1500 rpms..... ok2000 rpms..... here comes the turbo!!!2400 rpms...... almost 10 pounds!!!!3500 rpms..... pushed back into the seat.... I love boooooost!!!4500 rmps...... no boost.... no power..... no throttle reponse.. no nothing. SUM*****! Still doing it....
shifted gears into second and just tried to cruise along at about 2500 rpms with maybe a pound or two of boost.... It was laggy and drove like crap.
So..... long story short. Fixed a bunch of crap, still not running right.
ANY suggestions at all would rock.
I checked on that wastegate problem... I took it off the turbo and moved the door with the arm.... it opens and closes very easily. So I put it all back together. Started the car and just blipped the throttle from the throttle body to watch the actuator arm to see if it moved.... NO movement. Should it move when going from vacuum to boost? Even just a little bit?
Also..... exhaust side of the turbo smoked a bit today. Just the housing. Hoping it was just burning off extra wd40.
