i was d!ck around with my 240 i just bought and the guy said the engine only had 50k on it so i said hell i might as well put some boost to it but i dont have a manifold.... i got the stock exhaust manifold off and i was looking and i noticed it lloked almost like a ford probe exhaust manifold would bolt up and i just happened to have one sitting under my workbench so i tried her out and it fits on upside down so thats instant top mount turbo but there are a few obstacles. the bottom of the manifold(outlet flange on top) only has bolt holes in the middle so you need to use a bracket that will bolt the manifold down from either side of the lower probe manifold holes. the ports are ever so slightly off when you check it with the gaskets off the 240 manifold so it should be port matched. the last problem is the clearance with the head and sparkplug wires i would just make a really really good heat shield but it all depends on the turbo. the probe uses an ihi rhb5 turbo and it looks to fit fine. i dont know if anyone has tried this but i think i might give it a try and i will post how it turns out whenever i decide to complete this project.

Sweet, cause we may be able to use aftermarket Probe mani's. I may see if one is in the junkyard here just to play around with it on my spare head.

Great find...possiblities and options are always a good thing.

these exhaust manifolds are very abundant because a lot of honda guys just junk the mani and use the turbo. i will make a post on honda tech and see if anyone is giving them away for free or cheap. all i have gotten done so far was remove my exhaust but i will try to get pics by saturday.

the exhaust manifold in that pic isnt even the one i am talking about, i am talking about the stock turbo exhaust manifold and i checked the gaskets and the ports are close enough to just grind a hair off of them and it would be perfect. read the topic.... i bolted the manifold up today with the stock probe turbo (ihi rhb5) and it fits pretty well theres no doubt in my mind that it would work well but i am going to make a set of plug wires with elbows in the gromets so they dont rest on the turbo and also make a heat shield. also i will have to relocate the wastegate actuator so i can get to the spark plugs esily and create an o2 housing. it looks really sweet so far and i will post a progress report as soon as i get some more done.

i made the brakets for the lower bolt holes on the manifold today . i cut the bottom part of the flange from the stock manifold with a cutoff wheel and trimmed both pieces to fit on the probe manifold. it was a lot of trimming with a grinder but once the flange is all welded together it will seal the manifold to the head really well . so far i have spent $0 on this project besides all of the cutoff wheels i went through to fabricate some stuff.

according to the auction it fits:

This part fits the following years and Ford Mazda models with the 2.2L (4 cyl) turbochraged engine:

1988 1989 1990 1991 1992

Ford:89 Probe GT (turbocharged)90-92 Probe 4-133 (2.2L), w/turbo

Yeah, the old Probes and MX-6's came witha 2.3l turbo and small FMIC's. Still slow but turbo nonetheless.

did you know the tempos were available AWD for a couple years?my brother knew a guy that took the turbo 2.2, stroked it out to 2.3 (I think, cause it was 2.3 liter turbo but thats longitudinal) and was running like 13.0.Fun for a tempo.

they made 2.3t's in the 80s. Thunderbird Turbo Coupes, Merkur XR4Ti's, Mercury Cougar XR7s, and Mustang SVOs had them
