My car went into the shop last week for the air bag recall. I made a final post about the outcome lower in this thread. While it was there, I also had them change the PCV valve, install another Brake Motive kit (my 3rd set on two different M's), install my new wheels and tires, new fog lights, update the NAV, program new TPMs for each new wheel, test the battery, and check the hoses and belt. I know I could have done the PCV myself, but I have been slammed with work lately and busy with rugby.
Here is the beauty and the bill:

Reset tire pressure, install tires / wheels (customer provided), program TPM sensor and check system 159.00

BRKWM replace front brk pads and machine (customer provided parts) 204.00

BRKWM replace rear brk pads and machine (customer provide parts) 204.00

NWD map udate 2015 (latest available from Inifniti) N/C *** JNK45 VIP customer with other service pending

Install fog lamps for front (customer provided lamps) 159.00

**R17042 remove and replace front passenger airbag inflator N/C

Install dash (customer provided dash) 225.72

Perform complimentary care wash, vacuum interior, clean windows, apply tire dressing N/C

EINSP Perform multi point visual inspection - no needs at this time N/C

total: $1166.46

Thew new fog lamps represent a huge leap for me. I have always believed that amber fogs illuminate the roadway better than any other color.
However, I have read up on this and there really is no confirmation from any 'experts' that this is actually a fact. That plus the fact that South Florida never gets any fog lead me to change my position. I found a set of PIAA fog lamps on Ebay that are 6000k to match my Osram CBH 6000k head lamps and had them installed. I tested them on the way home and was very pleased how the match the head lamps.

I always thought the same thing about fog lights, that ~3000k was best. But most new high end OEM cars are using 6000k LEDs.

I like those wheels and considered using a set of of gun metal ones. Do you a pic of the wheels on the car?

The air bag recall included labor to remove and install the dash. That $226 was an extra charge to me because I bought a new dash and they had to remove bits from my old dash to prep the new dash for the air bag before they could install it. The bill didn't specify how much labor would normally be charged to install a dash.

So it's safe to say if you want a new dash wait until you get your recall done

Yes. It's best to have someone mess with the dash ONLY once. Especially if it is the original dash that has been subjected to temp changes and sunlight. My service rep told me he takes pictures of the dash before and after the recall to document that damage was done BECAUSE of the removal / re-install. Even with pictures as proof, he says Infiniti most often refuses to do anything about any dash damage caused by the recall procedure.
I see Infiniti's point. Imagine how many old dashes will be damaged and need replacement at over $2000 each (although their actual cost is lower). But I have NO sympathy for Infiniti. Infiniti knew they were using a company who used cheap, unsafe propellants and they continue to this day to buy from Takata - the ONLY manufacturer who uses this dangerous, sub-standard propellant. Reap what you sow, gentlemen!

That's the way I feel. Can't give us crappy dashboards AND volatile explosives to "protect" our coconuts. Pick one.

Happy ending to this story Larz, happy motoring.

Looks great Larz! Thanks for the excellent write-up. How do you like the new Michelin tires?

Thanks Kmiles! I was always a die hard fan of Michelins. When I purchased the Hankook Ventus S1noble2 tires, it was a test if you will. I liked what I read about them, Tire Rack gave them a good grade, and they were significantly cheaper than Michelins. So, I gave them a go. If I'm honest, the Hankooks were very, very good. They ran quiet, smooth, provided confidence in handling, and had great grip in wet conditions. The only drawback was the noise. As quiet as they were when new, the road noise began to increase after about 10,000 miles. Slowly at first, but by the time I was at 30,000 miles, the road noise was similar to snow tires. The handling, performance, and tread wear was very good with the Hankooks till the day I replaced them. It was simply a matter of noise levels. Now I'm back with Michelin to stay.
