I've been shopping for a more practical daily drive for a while...since my CA-powered, gutted coupe riding on Tein HE's isn't very comfortable or reliable for daily driving. This became even more apparent this past week, when a breather hose blew off the valve cover, and it blew about a quart of oil into the engine bay in a timeframe of about 15 mins @ stock boost, due to my horrible blow-by (failing piston rings, most likely on 3 and 4).

Anyways, I picked up my new toy on friday: a "salsa" '00 Frontier Desert Runner SE extended cab, auto V6. Here's a couple pics off the dealer's website:

It has 68k on the odometer, all the mechanicals are in excellent shape, and aside from some minor scratches and dings, has a very clean body/interior. I picked it up for $10,160 base.....$12k drive-out w/ 2yr/24k bumper-to-bumper warranty. I like to think I got a decent deal. I would've rather had the s/c model....but I'm pressed for time, and this one was easy to find.I looked at Tacomas, S10 ZR2's, Ranger Edges, etc...and finally decided to stick with Nissan. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with Frontiers?

Nice truck! (scratches and dings? bah! you need a big rust hole in the quarter panel to give it real character :D)

I haven't heard anything bad about the Frontiers, if i were to get a pickup, i'd either go Nissan or Toyota. Since they've been making bulletproof trucks for about the same amount of time.

Thank you for the positive replies. I've put about 150 miles on it, with only one complaint: it ticks a bit from the passenger side of the engine bay for the first 5 mins or so of driving. It probably just has a crappy oil filter, and could use an oil change. I'll swap to my usual K&N Filter and Mobil 1 synthetic oil as soon as I can.

Let it be known that the frontier line would probably be the only pickup that I would ever buy. Good choice.

me, I'd go for a crew cab 4x4 supercharged 3.3. But that's a 30k truck new.

if you don't plan on off roading in hardcore manners, the desert runner is very nice though. 4x4 lift with the cheapness of 2 wheel drive and slightly better mileage.

I'll take my Frontier in Yellow:D

Yes James, they can actually pull that color off nicely.

mmhmmm, I'd so take it to the beach and lean on it pretending I'm a lifegaurd.

then probably do some donuts in the sand and go jump something.

I need a boosted 4x4 truck, or 4Runner. three cheers for a turbo 4Runner! Wait, do they make a SC'd Xterra? I can't remember...

blatant disrespect! bah, who am I kidding...

if somebody buys me one of those, I'll put it on the T Bird:D

gotta be red though, to somewhat go with my interior color.
