Well it arrived !!! Just as she looked on the ebay ads. Zero Mile 1994 Motor from Japan.

So here's a new twist ... What to go thru FIRST on a NEW never run motor that has been "sitting" for over what seems 1 year+ ???? and that has a broken waterneck.

Now Im starting to think perhaps there might be shrapnel from the waterneck breakage down inside motor.

The 1994 cylinder heads are coming off, and my 1991 heads are going on, so - lots o stuff going on already - so why not open her up ALL the way? Dont want to.

BTW - anyone need a set of 1994 Zero mile heads?

My crew has solid working knowledge of Ford 4.6L and 5.4L SOHC / DOHC - so Im not overly concerened, perhaps naive, but was wondering if there was anything extra special about the Q gen 1 motors to be extra sepcial careful of since it has been sitting for so long.

Right now Im brainstorming the restoration process from interior to suspension, trans and motor.

I'll leave your other questions up to the experts here, but I would worry too badly about pieces from neck in cooling systems.

Doa lot of flushing and they should come come out (if any).

Also if your waterpumpm works well then likely no pieces in cooling system.

I can't think of a way for pieces from there to get into engine internals.

Fred..:)

For not much cash or labor, might be a good idea to replace the front and rear oil seals. Not sure what to say about the shrapnel, but it would be in the cooling system, right? Maybe just open up the lower drain plugs and flush the hell out of it with a garden hose. Or inverted, on a stand.

"good idea to replace the front and rear oil seals."

Aight .. with all the discussion I hear about Q's that have sat from Q45Tech and their busings etc ... that become toast - figured there was plenty o engine goodies needed R&R as well.

"Maybe just open up the lower drain plugs and flush the hell out of it with a garden hose. "

Hehehe - we just got 2" firehose all hooked up out there at the shop .... that'l do 'er .....

"Or inverted, on a stand"

Will look into that option ......
