new coup same old problems

I just got a 93 s13 coup automatic car. When i got it the whole motor was unhooked i put everything back other than some things that were capped off from the previous owner(he said it was smog stuff idk really). Down to the point the car runs fine when it is going down the road. The problem comes when i first start the car it will run up for a min than spuder out. If i give it gas it misses but keeps running after the car is moving its fine until i stop again. i have to take it out of drive to keep it running on its own. I think its a fuel problem i have replaced the fual filter it was dirty and no change really. Someone told me it was idle set to low so i put bolt to hold it up for a test and it still dies no matter how high i put it. Idk i have tried all the little tricks i know if u know any or know whats wrong any positive help and advise is very much welcome. Thanks
