I agree, the OEM compressors are fine. To be accurate, its not that it has stopped cooling. Couple days back the engine was just louder but performance wasn't affected. No fluid issues nor CEL. To which, as far as I can recall, is "No!" It only fails if it gets dirty through an open system. That's on the owner, usually.
So, if you are content for a few more miles, maybe aftermarket is the way to go.
