Hi all.I have a 1996 s14 sr20det, and i need a new clutch.

I want it to hold the power i have and will have, up to about 400hp.I need it to be as streetable as possible, and allow SLIP for normal daily driving and on off traffic jams.

Anyway, i was thinkning about the newish SPEC stage 3 PLUS (Not the stage 3, but stage 3 PLUS), togheter with their SPEC Billet steel flywheel.

Has anyone got any experience with this clutch and fly?

I found quite a lot of reviews on the STAGE 3, but nothing on the STAGE 3 +.I know from spec, that they used to have some problems with the pressure plats on the older models, but its fixed now.

I was allso looking into the RPS MAX STREET with their segmented aluminium fly wheel, as an option - but it has an 80% more pressure from the pressure plate, and i am afraid it will be to stiff.

What do you guys think is better ?

Got to the spec site - http://www.speclutch.com , and check out te stage 3 PLUS.

Thanks,Dany.

By the description, it's the perfect clutch for your setup.

Yeah, but its the description iam worried about..... its the quality.

Anyone had any experience with these specific clutches, and SPEC in general ?

I know they had some issues in the past, but it seems they fix them... So iam wondering about any experience, RECENTLY.

Thanks.

I'm running a regular Spec stage 3 and love it. I've done just about everything you can do to a N/A 240 and I never once had problem with the clutch and I only broke it in for like 20 miles not the 500 they tell you to do.

How about the Spec bilet steel Clutch ? I know its not that light, compared to the others, only about 15LBS, but still about 5 less then the standart one.... Will it give some noticable improvments?

I wish it was lighter, but not too light, and i do preffer going with the flywheel and clutch from the same manufacturer.

A clutch is not rated for Hp and if it is it shouldn't be. It's rated for torque capacity and well If you don't plan on making 400 something ftlbs just got with the Spec 2.

I used a Spec 3 in my Starion. It was a very streetable clutch and I liked it a lot. It took and held whatever I threw at it. I was probably pushing close to 350ftlbs of torque and it held up very well to the abuse I put it through.

Although I have heard some horror stories, there are bound to be defaults from time to time. I've heard of a few clutches spinning out of the hub and what not but, even the higher dollar clutches are bound to break everyonce in awhile. Do yourself a favor though and break it in for the recommended 500miles, clutch chatter is a bish..

RPS's higher end pressure plates are EXTREMELY stiff. I would be more worried about damaging your thrust bearing with this clutch than how hard it is to drive with it.

Badly damaged thrust bearing = crankwalk.

Go with the SPEC.
