nit sure how a flywheel can be defective, a crack would have been obvious I suppose the mounting surface can be just a hair out of phase wiht the disk surface?

I had to replace my starter when i first bought my car. I accidentally put the wrong bolt in the starter and it made a grinding noise agaist the flywheel, check your starter and that its properly installed

That is completely possible, and I've seen that before where an aftermarket manufacturer gets it wrong and the starter drive gear won't engage properly. Some of the older RPS flywheels had the ring gear welds crack even to the point where it came right off the flywheel on some rare occasions....nothing is perfect all the time, just the way it is. Even the best suppliers sometimes have issues.

Auto parts people will most often warranty the part, but almost never the labor.

Any chance you know what the correct bolt size is?

The flywheel from Z1 is a piece of crap. I have it on my Z and there's like a dip in the teeth. Sometimes when I start the car the starter gear grinds because it doesn't make proper contact with that section.

I'm going to replace it but there's really no point to do that right now because I'm probably going to be pulling the engine this winter for a rebuild. Probably going to get a JWT.
