Just purchased my new car, I think I got a steal of a deal and I love the thing. Its my first car (I've had my fathers old 1986 F-250 on loan for a long while), Nissan 240sx se. I paid 2 grand for it, 100k miles, no dents, no rust, new tires, new brakes, new clutch, only minor scuffs that a small touchup shouldn't fix. Also, the timing belt is goin to need changed relatively soon, but I love the sound of the engine. Only 2 grand. Working on putting a stereo in it, unfortunately its dark and I can't see to figure out where to get my amp's power cord from the battery to the interior, but if I can't find any instructions online, then it will just have to wait for tomorrow. I absolutely love this car :D

Congrats. One thing: Timing Belt is not a belt, but a chain. Other than that, I'd give it a tune up. Plugs, Wires, o2 sensor, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Oil change, Oil Filter, maybe radiator flush, transmission flush, etc. The basic stuff that needs to be done every once in a while. I did it with mine when I got it, just for the sake of it. Cuz you don't always know when it was done last. Other than that, enjoy your new car. PEACE. Tek.

The more I drive it, the more I love it. Found out more about the timing chain, the concern is from milage alone, so I may get to put that off for a good bit. It just went through a tune up very recently as well as a brake job about 10k miles ago. Everything is running well, except a bit of rattling which I'm told is most likely my catalytic converter, will probally yank that out tomorrow and see if it fixes it (no emission tests here in SC :D). I find myself goin for a spin for the smallest reason, such a blast to drive :)

when i first got my car... every time it was 2:40 am or pm i went out for a drive... or was on the road at that time, i thought it was kinda funny.. and you wont need to change your timeing chain untill around.. 190-200k miles.. it costs alot to get it changed, but then you rarely ever need to get it changed, maybe once or twice in the lifetime of the car.. but then again its a good idea to change it when you change your cams too..

I went and got my oil changed, engine flushed, and transmission fluid changed, monday its getting its tuneup :) Tomorrow should have my subs put in, already had the windows tinted, I'm very happy with this thing. People at the Jiffy Lube here are apparently Nissan fans and were pretty amazed at what I got. Few small leaks of my transmission fluid, but they'll get fixed with my tuneup. Need a new bolt for my heat shield so I can get rid of this minor annoying rattle, but I think after this, I can start looking forward to some engine upgrades (distant future, as money isn't abundant right now). For sure new exhaust and leaning towards quite possibly a turbo in this thing :)

one of the cheaper mods is.. get heat wrap for your stock header, and take off the heat sheald because you wont need it any more..and if you go turbo get new forged inturnals first..and one last thing to remember about turbo's, low compression = more boost high power slower rev, high compression = lower boost high power faster rev..

Sounds like you got a nice deal.

If you want to start working on your car, I'd highly recommend a Factory Service Manual. Got mine from my local Nissan dealer, and it's already paid for itself several times over.

I for sure will get a manual before I do anything to it, but thats still a ways off. Right now I just need a dependable car to get me around and to make 2 hours trips about every week...I'm very happy with what I have :)

Dunno if it helps, but when you're looking for somewhere to run power wire (I'd wait for tomorrow's light) open up your hood and look straight back at the firewall in the back left hand corner...there should be a rubber grommet there that has a couple wires leading into the interior....if you want a "professional" stereo shop install, simply take your power wire, wrap it TIGHTLY to a screwdriver with several winds of electrical or duct tape, and jam it straight through....simply detach wire from screwdriver and you're good for the engine. Keep your hood propped so you can lay your wire out to be pulled. Go into the passenger side door of your car and take off the plastic floor panel trim molding all along the bottom of the door, then take a flashlight into the metal depths and search for your power wire...when you find it, pull it through and run it under where the trim was, all the way back behind your back seat (In my s13 i have it coming out through one of the holes in the back seat/trunk carpet piece, then going straight into my amp. I promise its one of the cleanest installs you can do.

Oh btw on the topic of heat shields...does the SR have one stock to remove, or do I need to buy heat wrappage for the new engine for this summer?

for my postive wire, i ran it under the car with the brake lines, but if i have to replace, i am definately going through the firewall and down the sills.you can tap into the factory clarion amps (if you have them) very easily i spliced the pre-amp wires from the rears, and it works without a problemhere is a link for the wiring diagram:http://www.240sx.org/faq/index.htmllook under "stereo bypassing s14 stock amps"
