This has probably been answered before, but I am new here and would not know where to look. I am thinking of buying a 1998 Nissan 240sx off a buddy for 2 G's. The body is very clean, the interior needs some TLC and the motor is shot. I am looking to do a motor swap but have no clue as to what motor is in this car. I know it is a twin cam, 16 valve. I'm looking to price these out to see if this car is worth buying. Also, if any members have any thoughts on this car, give me a shout as well if you think it is worth it or not. Thanks.

the car sounds like a good buy. You can either swap in the stock KA24DE. Or you can swap in some other engines from other nissans ranging from the CA18det, sr20det, rb25det, etc... Either way if the car is clean with a blown motor 2 g's is worth it. Is it auto or stick?

Ok...the car is a stick shift to answer that question first. The motor is not blown but it knocks really bad and revs high at idle at times. This knucklehead that owns it has no value for this car and hates it. He had his sound system stolen and has been brokenhearted ever since. He does have some 12 spoke 17 inch rims (whick are almost brand new) and those are included in the price. I want to put a stock motor back in and start from scratch but I want to know how much these motors cost. The interior is a bit dirty as armor-all is not in this guys monthly to-do lists. The body has one scratch on the side and it is just a paint trade at that and can and will be buffed out.

Please leave some feedback guys as this project starts as soon as I locate a motor. I will be sure to leave lots of photos so you can see the transformation. Thanks!

Nope. I was just looking to see how much a motor costs as Nissans are new to me and found this great forum. But thanks for the reinforcement, bro...

It depends on if you swap the stock air boxes and stock exhaust.

How much HP does the stock motor create and how much do they cost? As of right now, I am not in the market for turbo's but rather naturally aspirated power. I figure a kindly used stock motor will be enough for me until i get a little more hardcore. Any info on this topic?

That is the KA24DE which makes 155 WHP you can buy one for 300-1500 dollars depends on where you get it at You can also get a RB25DE which is a 6 cyl N/A that puts around 175-200 hp for like 600 bucks.

An SR20DE is easier to make N/a power with compared to the KA engine. With cams / int / hea / ex. you are looking at a ballpark of 160whp - 170whp depending on cam choice.

The big factor is the SR is a much more rev happy engine, and is also alot more responsive.

You should be able to locate an SR20DE engine for around $650 or so with gearbox. Wiring is slightly easier, and you can use alot of the cheap upgrades (like an OEM SR20DET clutch) to keep the budget down.

You also would have a very nice weight savings compared to the KA.

How much HP does this motor put out? Also, does it have the potential to hold a turbo if I change my mind in the future?

140 - S13160 - S14/15

You can always put a SR20VE head on it, and you'd be looking at around 180hp.

Yes, you could turbocharge it later, but any substantial power and you'd have to build the engine.
