new car, speedometer not working.

I just bought a 91 Hicas model, and the speedometer does not work. I pick the car up on monday so i don't know much about it yet, but the previous owner said that it works sometimes, and the odometer works all the time.

Could the problem be the speed sensor on the trans? I read somewhere that since the odometer still works that this is not the cause. I don't know how accurate the source is though.

The odometer runs off the signal from the speedo sensor so if its working all the time then the sensor is not your problem neither the wires running from it to the dash assembly. So I would bet that your problem is the speedometer itself. Could take a look and see if theres any loose wires. But I would say that somethings loose somewhere, be it a wire on the back of or something in the speedometer itself.
