Hi all,

The G is an amazing car, and just so happens to be my first vehicle. I have a question about taking it to the dealer.

I bought it used, and there are a few things I want the dealer to have a look at. If I want to get it checked out, 1) do I have to make an appointment? 2) Do they charge you for checking out the car? Or do they look at it, tell you what needs doing and what is covered under warranty or not? 3) If I want to get a loaner while my car is in, what do I have to do? 4) Unfortunately I bought the car without all the previous service records - if the previous owner didn't get the work done at an Infiniti dealer, will I still get things covered under warranty?

Sorry for all the questions!

Welcome to NICO!

First off, congrats on the G!! That's a hell of a first car! Next, we'll need the model year and miles to answer your questions.

To have anyone look at the car, an appointment is recommended. At least call first to make sure your not going to be sitting there for a few hours when it will only take them a few min to check things out. They will not charge you for just an estimate. Loaner cars are a dealer function, it's up to them on who gets what. Usually, you just need a credit card and your license (similar to a rental car). Finally, you should be covered under your warranty provided that the title is clean.

Be sure and post up pics!!!

Welcome to the forum. The G is your first car? Good choice.

Your questions. Appointments are favored by the dealers. In your case, since you don't have a specific item to work on, but a list you want checked, I'd call the Service writer at the dealership and ask what he recommends.

What year is your car and what is the mileage? It may be that it is under warranty. Otherwise, they typically don't charge for recommending repairs they determine are necessary, however, I'd expect you'll have to pay something for them to do any diagnostics on your car. Call the dealer and ask.

Wow, even with the same time stamp, you just can't beat Joe. He must have a special button or something.

Hey guys - thanks for the quick reply!

Yep the G35 is my first car I'm really proud of it! I was a poor student while in University, so figured once I got my new job it was time to treat myself! I will post pics as soon as I can - my family back home has been asking me for them as well.... BUT my camera has a lack of batteries at the moment haha.

It is an '05 G35 Coupe, with 19500 miles on the clock. It was brought into Canada by a car dealer in Ontario, and I had it shipped over to Alberta. Came off of a one-owner lease, female driver.

It should be covered by all the nice Infiniti warranties, so I'll probably give the dealer a call ahead when I end up going. Perhaps you guys can give me pre-opinions on some of the things I was going to ask....

Shift quality - it takes a bit of effort to get the car to shift from 4th to 5th. More so than any other switch (including 2-3 which I hear some people have problems)

Steering Wheel - the alignment in the car seems fine (drives nice and straight with my hands off the wheel) but the wheel is tilted slightly to the left for me to go straight (which bothers me - being an engineer I have something comparable to OCD).

Other - should I be doing anything to try to figure out if my engine consumes oil? I figure I have one or two years left on the engine warranty, and I've heard that process can take a while, so should I be doing anything in particular?

It has been f-ing cold here in Calgary over the last few days... down to -48C (-54F) with the windchill. When I first started my car, the AC was making a strange whining noise, is that a problem? It never did it before, and has stopped doing it now that we are back up to a balmy -20C.

That is about all I had on my mind at the moment. Thanks for the replies!

Lack of batteries is no excuse...we need pics.

2005 with 19500 miles should be in warranty - ask the dealer.

The wheel should be an easy fix for them. I hate it when they are not level too.

Engine oil consumption. You should be checking that anyway. Check it at every fillup until you get used to how your G is working.

At -48 C I'd be making strange noises too. I'd guess the belts were a little cold.

Call the service department and tell them your concerns. You should be okay.
