new car new problems (noises)

Well i broke down and joined the darkside today, with a 91 240sx ka24de. Its nice to be here. moved over here from bimmer land. My first 240sx he car was a blast till the noises came. the noise is really funny (not funny, but the way its made) it sounds like a loud knock from the front top of the motor, I've done some searching and every "noise" thread I've read says that should be a upper chain guide. but this sound continued even after my buddy and I took it out. So, I'm in need of some help.

let me decribe what happens

1. Its not at idle speed2. Its not happening while there is a load on the motor3. It seems a littleratic but does corrospond with engine speed4. It really only happens during deceleration or while there is little or no load on the motor

Any help would be appreciated from the new guyand if the news is really bad There will be a very decient 240 shell on the for sale list here soon

It could also be a rod knock. The KA likes to have a rod knock.

but wouldnt a rod knock be consistant and happen all the time?
