So today I recieved Logan76's car from the auto shippers. It started fine, but wanted to bog-out until it was warm. Oh well. Upon getting it home, I realise the oh-so-famous 'high gear i.e. drive in reverse really fast' whine is coming from the transmission in almost all gears. It's out of fluid. I filled it with 2.5 quarts of Synchromesh and ordered MT90 from Jegs.

After changing the oil, the car wouldn't start. The battery was dead, and I have NO IDEA why. I charged it, and noted that only 1 headlight worked total, the HUD didn't work at all, and there were no interior, except for a boost gauge in the dash. If it's accurate at all, it read -20 vacuum at idle.

I also noticed an EXTREMELY high pitched whine coming from what seemed to be around the exhaust side of the engine. I imagine it's what a 500lph fuel pump would sound like. Upon giving it throttle, the whine stops, I believe.

So I put it in reverse and back-out of the driveway. The car was kind of stuttering the whole time. I got it into first, and it was acting completely haywire. I couldn't get it to move at all. In 1st gear, applying the gas, it started to actually bog a little. That was pretty odd. Then it died, and wouldn't start again. I figure this may be attributed to a bad alternator, but I'm not sure.

I could seriously use some help from you guys right now.

My transmission started doing that when I switched to synthetic 75w-90 and my car would bog down until it warmed up until I replaced my iac valve gaskets.... And the whining could maybe be your downpipe rubbing on the frame....as gar as the wiring don't know I would have Carl H on the rb forums maybe fix it for you....but anyways, your like the third person in MN with a CA...so congrats I want to see it I'm up in Duluth right now but I will be home Tuesda night where are you Minneapolis. Maybe I could stop by Wednesday morning if your not to busy!!??

Well, it's pretty cold to go back out there again tonight. Though, I'll just say it's very unlikely it's rubbing. I had the car jacked to drain and fill the fluid, and I didn't really pay close attention to it, but I also didn't notice it rubbing.

As I said, it drove home from Fridley (20 minutes away) just fine. Once it was warm it didn't bog out at all, and it really made no odd noises. I did notice a plug next to the transmission which wasn't plugged in. I'm not sure if that's for the speedometer.

Besides, the pitch of this whine is way too loud to be any type of rubbing. When I gas the car, the whine stops. It's really, really high pitch too. I'd imagine it's what an ultrasonic whistle sounds like to a dog. hah.

Nah.

Also, I've found the source of the leak today. Where theres a T in the lines (i.e. wastegate line), there is a line that runs off that and into a hat-looking piece just behind the intake on the engine. It's not the one that goes into the intake, but rather a piece next to the intake. The hose is maybe 2 inches long and is somehow leaking. I'll take care of that when I get the car into a heated garage.

Its a small vaccum leak, your head light is burnt out, and it has a cold start issue, let her warm up.

I don't personally know him, but from what I understand... he parted his ride out to help out with his family.

And sup Logan. I just got back from Autozone and purchased a new headlight. I don't have a warm garage yet, so I'll wait on that. I seemed to notice somekind of occasional shaking while idling, and I think the throw-out bearing is out. There's an odd noise between the clutch engaged and disengaged. The car also shakes quite a bit when I shut it down. I'm not quite sure what the deal is on that.

Oh, and I think there's an exhaust leak from somewhere up by the manifold or downpipe. Do you know about any leaks up there?

And the headlight isn't burned out. I just replaced it and it turns out to be a faulty connection. The plug was pretty corroded when I cleaned it out. I'll have to do a better job on it tomorrow.

the bogging until its warm is fuel pressure. im 99% sure of it. low fuel pressure iirc. judging by your other thread, i can tell that thats exactly what it is.

Ya, I certainly figured that out tonight when I took a look behind the FPR.
