about two months ago i picked up a pristine '91 Z n/a. it is black, 2 seater, t-tops, 5 speed, 43k original miles, its perfect. and very fast. it spent a long time at Ultimate Z getting some performance enhancers. currently it has been bored to 3.1litres, Nismo cams, pistons, forged rods, lightened and balanced crank, Nismo clutch and flywheel, p&p, double valve springs, 5 angle valve job, Nismo short shift kit, nismo pedals, c/f interior trim, custom white leather interior accents, JWT ecu, Nismo injectors, K&N intake, custom catback, Nismo springs, F/R stb's, kyb agx shocks. thats all i can think of. the only thing i have done is the intake, all the rest was done by ultimate Z by the previous owner. car is fast, handles amazing, beautiful, everything a sports car should be. i dont have any timeslips yet (been working to hard to pay it off and dont have time to go to the track) but i beat a bone stock twin turbo VR4 by a good full car and half. i have fallen head over heals in love with this awesome machine.

but it has one problem. it leaks oil. i have found that there is a very small hole on the bottom side of the transmission where it bolts to the engine. to me this hole appears to be not intentional, although my dad insists that it is a breather hole. i am wondering if any of you Z owners have heard of this problem before. as a result of what you all have to say, im either going to seal it up or something else. so please give me some of your input. thanks.

That hole is intentional its a weap hole for fluid to escape so it wont damage the clutch. you likely have a rear main seal leaking on your engine. you need to remove the trans and inspect the seal, the seal retainer plate and the seal against the oil pan. one of those is likely leaking, or it could be the input shaft seal on the trans. more common to be something related to the rear main though.

as a rough estimate, if i took the car in on monday, how long would it take before it would be done?

i will have to commute to chicago a couple times in the next three weeks and the 240 is waitin for some suspension and is currently out of commision, so the Z is what i will have to drive.

providing none of your aftermarket stuff interferes with the removal of the trans it should take no more then 6 hrs real time, If they have a team system there it could take less, I would usually put 2 of my guys or myself and another guy on a job like that for a quicker turn around time.

my dad said i should change my oil to a heavier weight and put in some of that gasket sealer stuff. is this a good idea or not? right now i use Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic. what are your thoughts on this?

it wont help. once that particular leak starts it is dificult to stop doing anything short of replacing it. But also I dont believe in using that stuff as it could clog up some of the smaller cavities in the oil passeges.

Dropping the transmission really isn't that bad. I do highly recommend a transmission jack, but it is something that you and a friend could easily do in a couple hours.
