So I picked up a SOHC 1990 that hasn't ran in over a year. Got the car for almost nothing. Jump started it, and drove it home. Its got a few problems. For one, the idle is high around 1800-1900, it jumped up and held steady as soon as I started it. As soon as I diconnected the jumper cables, it dropped down and was normal. Figured that it had warmed up. I went inside to sign over the title, and when I came out it was back up, and has been there ever since. It also has a coolent leak from the water pump, which I'm going to take care of tomorrow. On my way home it started to over heat. I had to fill the rad before I started it, and it stared to boil the water and blow steam out of the overflow tank. I shut it off, let it cool down, filled it full of water again, and drove it the rest of the way home and nothing...no over heating..nothing but a high idle, which I'm led to belive it has something to do with the cooling system.. still not sure though. I've researched a lot of really good posts on here tonight, but would still like some input.... sorry for the long post.. any help would be great.

1st things..change the water pump/thermostat...then..try finding a vacume leak somewhere around the Idle Air controll valve..and or clean your maf with some cleaner..try those and post back bro.

Ok, changed the water pump, rad hoses, complete coolent flush and its running great, but still high idle. I found a vac line that was blocked off close to the rear of the engine, I pulled the screw out and hooked it up to a port that was left open. That brought the idle down to 1500. I went out driving for a bit and when I come to a stop light it drops down to 900, then slowly climbs back up.... I threw it in netral and rolled for a while, and it stayed at 900 the whole time, untill I was at a dead stop, then it climbed back up??? I got a new pcv valve, that I'm going to put on tomorrow, hopefully that will help. I can't really complain, I got a $2500 car for $500..
