Ok, so im in the market for some new cams on my rb. ive been talking to shocker about his cams for sale, but i cant find me the right CAS, since im S1 and hes S2. Also, i want something a little more aggressive. I dont want to go to aggressive, so my limit is 9.0 lift on the hydro lifters.. I really dont want Pon Cams, cause they dont have the Combo i want, and i was looking on RHD Japan at HKS cams, and Seems like the Only other option for drop in cams is the 256/256 and 256/264 duration. i would rather go with the 256/264, but then i was looking at the little chart and noticed that the RB20 has a 264 duration for intake... So i was like hmmmm, could this work? but then i got to thinking that it might not work with the NVCS, and i was wondering could the RB20 264 duration cam work on my RB25? if the answer is yes ill deff be going with the 264/264 setup. Also, i know that would sorta kill my low end torque (maybe) but ill have the Big holset to spool her on up. But if it wont work i guess ill just settle with 256/264. But why wouldnt it work? Arent the 20/25 the Same valvetrain wise?

The only thing i noticed that might be a problem is that the Lobe Center Angle on the RB20 intake cam was a lower degree than the RB25.. Any Input guys?

Thanks.

Feel free if im wrong to flame me.

Boy, this is weird. Are you spying on my car?

First the holset, now the cams

I'm probably going to get the new motor running tomorrow. Another RB25 with the same turbo (and a GTR intake w/adapter, arp studs, and a Tomie 1.2mm gasket ), but this one has a HKS 264 cam on the intake side from a RB20, and 256 from a RB20 on the exhuast. I am a little worried about it since it has stock valve springs (9.0 lift on the intake), but the guy that I got the motor from said it ran fine, so.......

I'll let you know what it runs like after we go tune it if it'll stop freaking raining, but I can tell you that the cam will actually fit on an RB25 and run.

Stupid azz Okinawa rain

I was actually hoping to find a RB25 Poncam on the intake so I could run VVT still, so if this cam don't work, it'll be looking for a new home soon. We do have a problem of the vvt solenoid not clearing the intake mani (actually, the coolant tube on it) though.

What page are you getting the specs on?

Poncams dont come in 264 for the RB25... Its Gay... There Procams are badass, but for drop in replacements i would deff. go with HKS... For High Performance, changing the Valve springs, and converting to solid lifters, i would go with Procams over HKS. And i think i'm gunna rid of the VCT, i plan on going with Adjustable Cam gears anyway...

What are you talking about The VCT Solenoid not Clearing the Intake Mani? And do you Have A neo, cause the Regular RB's didnt have VVT, i think you are meaning VCT Variable Cam Timing.

can you supply pics of what your talking about? cause i cant get a visual.. I dont mind. the more info put into this thread, the more people it helps.. cause there hasnt been a lot of info on NICO about RB Cams..

and heres the Factory Cam Specs..

heres the RB20 Poncam Specs.

RB25 Poncam Specs.

And heres the HKS Cam specs.

Notice though the lobe center angle of the RB25 HKS cams vs the HKS 264 duration (intake) RB20 cams. The RB25 (intake) angle is higher than the RB20. thats the only thing that worries me.. anyone know if this will cause a problem, or if the hydro lifters can take 9.0 lift on the intake? if it can take it on the exhaust side, why would the intake be different? are they made to not take as much lift as the exhaust?

I know the Poncams only come in 256, I was just saying I want one. The exhaust cam is a HKS 256 anyways, so they are a little mis-matched, but they came in the motor, so I was like "fck-it" and kept them in there. I'll either get a poncam for the intake (and mod the intake mani to get back VCT), or if the HKS intake cam works well, get a HKS 264 ex cam. I think the intake being bigger on a turbo motor is backwards, but hopefully it will still be better than stock cams, even with out the VCT.

The VCT (which I call VVT all the time, but I mean VCT) solenoid on the side of the head hits one of the coolant passages on the RB26 intake manifold that came on the series 1 motor with an adapter. I'll try and get a pick up soon.

I'm not sure about the lobe angle, but I'll ask my car guy tomorrow. Maybe it has something to do with advancing the cam on a RB20 on the top end like a RB25 would do with VCT?

Are you running stock springs? I am, and the lift worries me reference coil bind, but I guess I'll see. I plan on only spinning the motor to around 7.5k, but with the new intake and cams, it might keep making power that high, so maybe I'll want to spin it higher, I dunno. I set the limiter at 8k on the other motor (it had a GTR oil pump), but usually shifted around 7.3-7.4k because it felt like the power was strarting to drop off a little. Probably the stock intake and throttle body.

alright, lmk how that 264 intake does, cause im seriously thinking about going for it.

With the 110* LCA IN and 115* EX , It would just produce a little Valve overlap, i would suppose...

So i would also suppose that a V8 sTyL3 USDM TyTe y0 rough idle could Be expected!!!!11 woooHHOOO

Edited for content.

LOL im bored..

has anyone checked out this site?

http://www.camshaftshop.com/ca...et/42/

i was thinking of contacting them to make sure the 264s are a direct drop in, because if they are i am thinking of running those or the 258s

http://www.kelford.co.nz/ IS another site that has cams. let me know what you end up deciding and the outcome, i am very curious to see how these perform

That Site is the bomb dude. If anyone has any Rep for them LMK. cause right now that is the deciding factor. I have heard about Kelford, but i have never even thought about the Camshaft Shop.

And the thing thats so awesome is you can get up to a 280* duration and still be ok for Hydraulic Lifters!

I am most deffinately going with a 264/272, if i went with them. Does anyone know if you can still run VCT with there cams?

Damn. Just read, and it said they do not suit the NVCS.. o well..

Why you want to keep VCT? with that cam setup, what are you giong to set your rev limiter at?

i dont know, i plan on going with higher duration cams so thats gunna kill my low end torque off the bat, and with the VCT gone, that would make it even worse i suppose. Prolly set the Limiter in the 8's.

Well i am thinking of going with 264s and a hx35, hopefully meth injection and shooting for 400whp on stock internals, i know its been done so i dont think it will be to hard, I want to set the limiter at 8k or so but i will probably be running stock internals besides the cams, i might put some valve springs and retainers in there to help out, what are you running or going to run for internals? what kind of hp are you hoping to hit on your hx35?

i dont have an Hx35, i have a H1E (HX40) I'm going to build my motor, New Pistons, New rods, and as far as valvetrain wise, i may go with some new springs and retainers also.

Are you going to run the stock hydro lifters? What do you think i could set my limiter at with just stock motor and new cams? I am thinking of putting in a headgasket and head studs when i do cams, but then again for the power i am trying to do i dont have to do that extra work.

I got the cams in and tuned. They sound nasty, but I think I'm getting valve float about 7.5k though. The spool is slower too, but I did a different motor with a 1.2mm headgasket (lower compression), the cams, and a RB26 intake with ITB's, so there is no telling what is doing what. Aside from the nasty idle, I think I would have rather done poncams to keep the VCT.

Hey Zenki, did you get the H1E in yet? I was just wondering how big it was compared to the HX35 or HX40. I think I have determined that the hybrid chokes out on the exuast side around 500rwhp on a RB25. I'm in the hunt for a HX40 turbine wheel now (got the ex housing already).
