2003 Frontier 3.3l VG33e, 142K miles- had a front crank seal failure and oil slung into the timing belt, sprockets etc. Engine was a reman installed about 50K ago by previous owner. Front crank Seal was apparently installed incorrectly and the garter spring was partially outside of the sealing lip for a while. During the repair cam seals were also removed for replacement and it was noted that the LH cam seal was black while the RH was red but otherwise seemed ok. The new RH seal installed as expected and with no issues. The new LH seal was same brand, part number and specs but when inserted over the cam it slid into the bore with no resistance, barely touching the bore. The removed old seal OD measured at 1.924in and the new one at 1.900in.At this point I don't know if I should somehow try to find a different seal that fits tightly or use RTV to try to secure the seal I have. Has anyone seen this condition before and what are your repair suggestions? Thanks for your comments!
