*New* Cali Street Legal Engine Swap in a s13

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Hi im new to nico but so far i kno wats the rules to make an engine street legal California Engine Swap Guidelines1. The engine must be from the same year or newer vehicle. For example, if the car is a 1999 Civic, the engine must be from a 1999 or newer car.

2. The engine can be larger than the original, but it cannot be from a heavy-duty vehicle, unless the vehicle was equipped with one from the factory.

3. The engine and chassis must have all of their original emissions components in place and functioning properly. However, mixing and matching emissions parts from different vehicles is generally not allowed. As such it's up to the reff to decide what needs to be there. A quick way to see what you need there is to look at the sticker under the hood. It will list all the emissions equipment that came on the car.

4. A federally certified engine cannot be used in a vehicle that was originally equipped with a California certified engine.

I have a 92 240sx and i was wondering what usdm engine to swap into my car. I know most of you would say get a sr or ca but i wanna make it legal becuz the cops around my area are asses and pulled me over saying i had an illegal engine when im with my stock ka lol(stupid cops). Well ya i wanna swap it out and get myself a new engine for more hp! I know u can put a turbo kit but i decided to just get a new engine and put my ka into my 280zx(engines messed up already). i was thinking of a vq35de(350z) or dropping in a small block 350 . my budget is going to be around 8k once i pay off the 240 . but im open to other sugestions and other engines.

Moved to the Hybrids forum.

v8 (LSx) swaps seem to be the new trend going around now.

Vq swap supposedly gives a really got weight ratio. Generally very torquey motors too so i guess its good for auto xing if thats what you wanna do.

God that picture is hilarious..

Still thats a v6 fully loaded Honda that weighs more than a Vett for sure. Kinda hard to compare a fiberglass framed sports car with a fully loaded 4 door sedan..

Can some one with a LSx in a S13/14 get the MPG from there cars...The Vette's MPG rating has alot to do with its gearing and transmission.I get annoyed when I see things like that.
