Hey guys,I'm sure that this question has been asked before but I'm in a bit of a rush...So, if you could do it all over again, would you buy a G? I mean for the money it seems like a great value. But I'm worried about down the road and how an Infinity will stand up to repairs and faults. Seriously tho guys, egos aside is it worth it? At the moment I'm looking at a run of cars. CTS's (2nd choice after the G), Audi A4, IS300 and the likes. But the sheer style and grace and potential of the G has gripped me. But, with my last purchase I jumped too quickly and without asking guys that ACTUALLY OWN one of the vehicles that I'm curious about. Also, how does it handle (being real wheel) in the snow? And I'm torn between the coupe and sedan (leaning towards the sedan for the room and extra doors. I've had my share of 2-door sports cars and hate having no room in the back!).

At what point do they start to break down. Or has there been a point or instance of this yet? I'm looking at something along the lines of a 2003 G35 Sedan w/ everything...sport package etc. What should I expect from this car? Is it worth buying over the others? And MOST importantly should I expect it to break after 80k or RIGHT after I sign for it! lol C'mon now...we all believe in Murphy's Law!

So in short, if you guys wouldn't mind sharing your experience and thoughts I'd be very much obliged.

Thanks in advance,

Tyson

I would deffinetly buy the G coupe again. I would just have waited the 6 months to get the 6mt instead of the auto.

The entire Infiniti line of cars are VERY dependable and VERY reliable. The G35 is an excellent car. I own the coupe but if I had it to do over again I would get the sedan. I am not knocking the coupe but in owning it I have realized that I am not a sports car person. I prefer the smoothness of the sedan to the sports ride of the coupe.

These cars last up to 200-300K miles with regular maintenance. You will only get this kind of longevity through maintenance. Everyone on this site is obsessed with maintenance, as am I.

Let me give you an example. I owned a 1995 J30 for ten years. I sold it in 2005 when I got the coupe and at the time of sale the J30 had 133K miles on it with no major repairs over the cost of those 10 years just regular maintenance. That car would have lasted me another 100k miles but I got the new car fever.

Infiniti's are Excellent cars and anyone who tells you otherwise either didn't maintain theres properly or they are simply a liar.

Purchase the G, I promise you won't regret it.

Absolutely. My neighbor has an '01 I30 (or 35, forget) and has over 150k miles on it. I spoke with him at length about the Infiniti brand before taking the plunge and purchasing my G. He said since it hit 100k miles he has only had to do regular oil changes (whereas on a lot of other cars a bunch of crap goes after 100k). He is still on his original engine and has never had to do any major mechanical work to it. He said in a heartbeat he'd buy another Infiniti. The only thing I'd change it to get a darker interior - with kids the wheat shows everything!

Without a doubt!!! Granted I have a coupe, but I can't imagine a better biult car -- besides, the G seemed to "fit" me better when I test drove cars when I was in the market. And after I bought it, I discovred I loved it more every day!

The other cars you mentioned have their advantages/disadvantages, but I'd buy another G in a heartbeat.

I have owned my G coupe (Auto) since Feb of 04. I have had only one problem that had to be fixed. The speaker in the passenger side door was making a slight squeak. I drive it everyday to work about 20 miles one way and I can honestly say with out a doubt that I did not make a mistake with this car! I am not tired of its look, performance and fit and finish. I am on vaction right now and rented a 05 Mustang 6cyl convertable. It looks nice but it runs like sh.. and I truly see a HUGE difference in the two cars. I can not say anything about the GT Mustang I am sure it is different in many ways then the 6cyl. but the fit and finish must be simular.

Would I do it again? YES!

I have owned my 06' Coupe for one month, and I smile each time i drive it. It's a fun, sporty, not to mention fast car. Secondly I purchased this car simply b/c I was fed up w/ expensive german cars which are no good for daily driving. Sure they look amazing and have the bells and whistles, but I am at a point in my life where time and energy is of utmost importance.

Infiniti makes amazingly dependable cars and the G35 is a looker. I drive it each day around 15 miles and love it. No regrets. Good luck w/ your car.

OK, I'm just a NKOTB, having owned my 2006 Coupe (auto, luxury, sport suspension) for exactly 13 days, but unlike almost every other vehicle I've ever purchased, I have absolutely no buyer's remorse. It thrillls me every time I get into the car. I've been trying to rack up some mileage so I can get past the break-in period and really enjoy it.

My wife loves her 05 sedan. We've only had it since Jan., but we both enjoy driving it. I drive a mainly stock mustang cobra to work everyday and really enjoy getting behind the wheel of the G! We are at the coast this weekend and decided to drive the G instead of my pathfinder 4x4 just because it is so much fun to drive! Test drive one and put it thru some curves....you'll buy it. Also, it is recommended by Consumer Reports if you're concerned about reliability. Shop around too! We got ours for over $5,000 off the sticker. This included a rebate at the time.

Almost everything about the G is "tried and true". The VQ35 has been in use since it came out in the 2k2 Max/Alty. The engine design has been on the Wards top-10 for years. Nissan/Infiniti has no qualms about recalls unlike some domestic companies that hide issues. That gets a lot of respect from my standpoint.

I have >104k on my 2k2 Max and don't regret the purchase. I occacionally regret some of the mod choices, but that is fleeting. As soon as I find the G I want, I will be finally getting rid of the wifes Ford product and enjoying every vehicle we have.

I'm a big belivever in the Infiniti line - the G being my third. My Q in the signature line was my second... following another Q that made it to over 200K before being financially totaled in a fender bender. These are great cars - and the G has held it's value amazingly well. We'll see how it goes after the new body style comes out in a couple of months... As far as I'm concerned, the G is definately a winner... From a reliability standpoint, you hear about the occasional failure of this or that - but nothing widespread. The only thing I hear about on a regular basis is the throttle actuator - but even then I don't know that it's a common failure item. Mostly minor squeaks and rattles.

The only thing I don't like is the gearing for highway driving... it sits at about 3000 RPM at 80 - a 6th gear would be nice... but a minor annoyance. The G really shines around town, while the Q feels most at home cruising down the interstate at about 90 MPH

I can't comment on the snow handling - but I would certainly consider the G35X if that's a major concern...

Hope to see a post from you with pictures of your new G in the near future!

I love everything so far - look, performance, price, potential reliability ...

But the one thing I can't stand is the hot air leaking through the steering column. It is driving me literally crazy. But there is a potential fix and I pray to God that it will do it.

I would, and I did.Just bought my 6MT last week and that was after buying my wife's QX4 back in '02. Her car has been very good and dependable. We liked the dealership too so when it was time for me to start car shopping it wasn't a hard sell for me with the G35. Performance, styling, over-all looks on par with a 911 or NSX and much cheaper.

When I run mine into the ground, I'll be back a 3rd time I suspect.
