Guys:I have seen lots of discussion on the board about brakes ABS vs. non ABS.

I am looking at a set of brakes from KVR performance to replace all four corners.

#1. Are these a decent brand . - seemed reasonably priced, & I assume you get what you pay for right??

#2. ABS part number or non ABS - or does it matter. Want to keep my stock caliper.

#3. Plain, slotted, or cross drilled?? I am going for the "show" factor, but want decent street performance for daily driving.

Thoughts anyone.

I have KVR pads on my 300ZX calipers and they're a good strong performing pad.

As far as ABS goes, the calipers and rotors are slightly larger than non-ABS cars, so you'll want to pair up ABS parts for your car.

Depending on where you get your rotors, cross drililng and slotting don't incur extra charge (heavy throttle for example). And if you're going for pure bling, get them cross drilled and slotted. I hear the kids like 'em that way.

I ended up with drilled and slotted rotors (it was all HT had in stock when I ordered them) and have not had any performance issues on the street. About the only performance issue that crops up from cross drilling is that the rotor is weaker and is more succeptible to heat related problems and cracking. Something you probably won't get hot enough on the street to happen.

SO correct me if I am wrong, but my stock calipers will be for ABS parts.SOOOOOO, the parts I need to get need to be abs right???? NON ABS pads will not work right??

You are correct.

Stock calipers/rotors on Verts are 'abs size'.

Non-abs will be too small.

You might want to check with a dealer. I don't know if it's just my vert or Canadian verts, but mine has the nonABS calipers, pads and rotors. I had them check at the dealer and it listed the same part numbers as for my '90 hatch.

Spydy, you're the very first vert owner I've ever heard of having non-ABS sized brake components. It could very well be a Canadian thing, or the parts catalogue just lists standard sized components, and someone along the road replaced the calipers and rotors and put standard back on there cause the parts catalogue said to.

If they hadn't checked by VIN then I probably wouldn't have believed them. I replaced the pads and rotors with the nonABS and everything fits and works. just thought I'd let him know before he bought.

That is pretty strange....

spydy.. you are talking about the front brakes or the rear brakes??

'verts should all have ABS fronts and non-ABS rear brake components. If your fronts were non-abs, I'd have to guess that someone replaced all the parts at some point with non-abs.

I changed all 4 corners, all nonABS. I'd guess that both you and tenkawa_akito are right, probably because the dumba** dealer told a previous owner that it shouldn't have ABS brake components.

Spydy: did someone change your calipers to accept NONABS rotors & pads??

Before I put this thred to bed.... Are you guys saying you can put NON ABS rotors & pads on the ABS Vert. system, but you cannot put ABS equipment on NONABS calipers??? Will non-ABS pads/rotors bolt right on, but just provide less superior performance???

Let's put this thread to bed for good.

'verts came with ABS fronts and Non Abs rears.

The Calipers, rotors and pads in the front are all slightly larger ABS parts rather than non-abs parts. These parts are not interchangable. Non-abs rotors will not fit with ABS calipers. Non-abs pads will not fit with abs calipers.

The only way to use non-abs parts in the front of a 'vert is to change all three parts to non-abs.
