I guess I may as well announce this since I already showed it off at the Dallas Meet.

I'm officially boosted.

I'll take some better pictures once I have time to clean up my engine bay, it was dirty as s*** when I took this. It's running good at 5psi with the tranney cooler installed which keeps the temp anywhere between 150-190 degrees which is really good. I still need to get some exhaust work done and a reflash to get the stupid error codes to go away, otherwise, it's great. :)

And a big thank you goes out to TJ for selling me his SFR turbo kit.

One thing my shop told me that did the install, the "hardest part" of the install is that "everything is touching everything" due to lack of space in the engine bay area which generates a massive amount of heat. I'm probably going to get some kind of vents cut into my hood to help with that.

Thanks, yeah, I got a pretty good deal on it from him. I had to take advantage of it.

So far I haven't gotten onto it that hard other than a couple of nights I took it out driving around after the install. I will say though that the new exhaust piping makes the car sound like a dang v8 while at idle! One of the big issues is that my Nismo cat back has portions of it that are only 1.25 inches in diameter and I'm losing power there so having that increased to 2.5 inches with a straight through resonator put on to quiet it down a little.

He walks off Z's from the get go, so I'd say his coupe's in the ~ 300 whp range if not really close to it. It is most definitely a fun car now. If only I'd get a hold of $6k I'd do something like that too. :D

No dyno can be done since it would be inconclusive anyway. They say 320whp @ 5psi but not real sure on those numbers, maaaybe. The controller it came with was pre tuned but it's a piggy back so the ECU has to be reflashed to get the dumb stock settings off, tweak throttle, remove speed limiter, etc which my shop will be looking into doing sometime in October after I have my exhaust redone.

One thing to note that I do notice is that it loves being in Manual Mode, seems to hit it faster and holds boost better. If you punch it and max our your RPM, your boost is killed, but not if you're in manual mode. I'm guessing the reflash might fix this but we'll see.

As for the length of time, I dropped it off on a Saturday afternoon and picked it up the following Saturday at 6pm. I went back in the next weekend to have my CVT fluid drained, the trans temp gauge installed and new CVT fluid put in, god, why does that stuff have to be so expensive??!!?!? lol, I shouldn't be complaining after as much money as I've thrown around lately.

And yeah, the shop is called Dynosaur, like a rawr dinosaur, yeah. :yesnod

I talked to em about the whole MT swap and they said "best bet is to wait a year or two until junk yards have more altimas".

I was secretly hoping no one would buy the turbo from TJ so I could pick it up for in Jan 2011 but Im glad ur enjoying it!!

But your saying that getting the carbon fiber hood would be a good investment if I get a turbo???

Yeah, I was actually tempted to get addias2go's when I saw it go up for sale but never pursued it and felt I missed out. When TJ offered his up, I knew I couldn't pass it up. And no, I'm not saying get that hood, honestly, I'm not sure how well it would do in letting air in/out. I was thinking of having something custom done to my current hood in specific areas that output the most heat.

SFR asking price is $5500 but with shipping and transmission cooler I think it comes out to close to $6,000 or maybe the cooler is included now? Unsure... I also got an electronic boost controller out of the deal which I have installed in my dash so I can change settings, boost and such which is a great feature to have. The retail on that was like around $600-$700.

That's it...
http://www.hksusa.com/products/more.asp?id=3208

The install was $1400 and then got charged another $100 for CVT drain+refill+temp gauge install.

I use the BD Tuner to keep track of my a/f ratio so if you have that, you're one step ahead.

Reflashing the stock ECU is going to be at least another $400-$800 I'm sure, depending on what Dynosaur does or if I go the UpRev route. The custom exhaust work, unsure atm on that price. The shop also heat wrapped a lot of stuff and I put even more on in certain places after getting home. Just a precaution.

Even if you have MT, you're going to want to heat wrap like a mofo due to our compact engine bays.

I've been pretty tame with it to be honest. Haven't gotten on it much. I probably will after I finally have it tuned.

Nice!
I am curious as to if there is a different level of boost under cvt as opposed to in manual mode, do the gauges show that its getting the same psi under both scenarios?

Sweet man! The hood is aluminum, so it can def be cut and worked with, I can envision somewhat of just a cut and bend if you like... Think of the Artisan AC's hood.. Couldnt you just essentially cut into it, bend it and throw some mesh in? Obviously with a careful touch, (not phenom lol) but otherwise, i cant see what you would do to the original hood.

It might have something to do with the tune, maybe once I get reflashed my boost will stay constant, unsure atm.

I have some vids for you guys to see since some were eager to see some of it in action. Keep in mind that these are all with us both in CVT mode and my boost varied anywhere from 3-5psi during these videos. At some point we're going to have to do some of me in manual mode I suppose since power boost stays higher longer...
