here is the deal, i will be buying a sr when i get back to america, im in japan right now, but what i want to know, i have know idea how good the condition the engine will be in when i get it, so what im thinking is that i should pull it apart and inspect it and also while im in there put some new rod barrings and piston rings on it, is this worth it, i have never done this before but i will have someone helping me that has, and if anyone knows anything else that would be cheap to do please tell, i don't mind spending the time doing this but i don't really feel like throwing down a lot of money on new pistons or rods right now, my goal is to just have a 350whp 240.

The stock internals can easily hold up to 350whp.

It's never a bad idea to increase the durability of your internals though.

What I'm trying to say is that, while it's not necessary for you to do this, it's not a bad idea either. If you've got the extra money, go for it.

BTW, are you dan from http://godspeed.hack.net/ ?

no im not that godspeed....does anyone know how much barrings run and what would be the best piston rings and also how long does it take to do something like this, does anything have to be machined, and if you ask why don't i just ask the guy that is going to help me, one because hi is in kansas, and two because i don't have his email...

what 'barrings' do u want?.....Pistons usually come with rings...you just want rings, and no pistons???......http://www.phase2motortrend.com has prices.depending on what pistons you go with, will make u have to machine the motor, or not...it depends....

Time also depends on what exactly you get, experience by mechanic on the specific motor, machining time, shop schedule, et etc, we cant give you that information if we arent doing the work..

what i should have said was rod barrings, i started out in honda stuff, and i ordered an engine once and it sucked, the first thing that went where the rod barrings, so i am just thinking that while i had the engine out of the car, i could take sometime and replace some small stuff inside the engine that doesn't cost to much, and prolong the life of my engine, and also at the same time make sure its good...i mean if its not worth the time then someone please tell, its just also while im in japan i can pick up the parts here for cheap, i am not looking at replacing the pistons unless they need it, but i was wondering if i could just replace the rings...but again, this is the first time that i have ever worked on the internals, but i want my engine to last a while, also when i do this does it have to be machined, and as for the time thing i just want to know how many hours it takes someone who has done something like this before..thanks

FYI, it's bearing, not barring.

As for your parts, I'd say it's probably not worth it. But like I said earlier, if you're rolling in the dough and really want to replace these parts, go for it. It's not going to hurt.

piston rings don't usually wear out on SR's and replacing them is more difficult If it gets to the point where you'r egetting blow-by you will probably need to replace the pistons as well, and bore the motor. but replacing rod bearings is a great idea... and fairly simple.
