Hey guys...

Took my 2005 G35 in for sevice 22,000 and they say that I need back brakes. Should I go ahead and get that done there? They say it will set me back $300.00 or should I just take it to someone else that could possibly do it cheaper. If I get it done somewhere else, could that void out my warranty? Thanks for any help!

I have an '05 coupe and I just had my oil change at 35,503 and I have 8MM left on the pads on the front and 4MM left on the pads on the back. My back pads are needing replaced soon. They lasted me 3 years and the pads on the front are still the original pads.

You must really ride your brakes

The dealer quoted me $250 for rear pads including resurfacing the rotors. I have another place in Plano that I use when the dealer is too high and they quoted me $170. I think $300 is high unless you need rotors and then for pads and rotors that is probably about right to $100 cheaper than other places.

Using someone other than the dealer DOES NOT void your warranty. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar. Just be sure you keep your receipt as prrof the work was done if you are a fanatic about keeping a maintenance log like I am.

Hope my $0.02 helps.

There seem to have been several threads lately about poor life for rear brakes. I'm wondering if this has anything to so with the VDC or the trax controll using the rear brakes to limit wheel spin? Maybe one of the techs will come along and answer this question. Anyone?

Thanks for the information...

The $300 includes pads and them shaving/resurfacing my rotors. I believe that I can get it done much cheaper, but I am in a brand new city and don't any good mechanics here in the Atlanta area. I really appreciate your $0.02, it really helped, especially about using other mechanics to do maintenance on my G.

My 2007 G has 26k miles on it and needs back brakes badly.... because the front brake rotors glazed and are not pulling their share of the work.

Might want to do front and back at the same time so you don't have to do the back again in 5 k miles.

300 sounds about right. Be advised that the rears will always wear faster than the fronts. thats how they were designed. Just ask the for 10% off parts and labor. !!!!

$300 seems high IMO, but dealers always are.

I change them out myself...you can get new OEM rotors/pads at everythingG35.com at a good price.

This is the first time I've heard that rears wear faster than the front. Not sure how this is possible since the front wheels do the majority of the braking. The general rule of thumb I've heard is that the fronts wear twice as fast as the rears do.

Try your local nissan dealer - the labor rates should be cheaper and they will be using the same NISSAN parts that the Infiniti Dealer does.

If the front rotors "hot spot" or "glaze" the back rotors have to pickup the slack and that is when you end up with 65% left on the front and 15% left on the back... my exact situation.
