Car: 2005 Infinity G35 Coupe

Post

Hi, I am getting my girlfriend a 2005 G35 coupe. It has 51k miles. I am wondering what should be expected, as far as maintenance, in the future. I did find there should be a 60k service done. What else should I be looking at doing? It also has factory navigation, are there many problems with that system? What are the little quirks about this car that might break or go wrong?

Welcome to nico,

To be honest the 05+ pretty much trouble free. All she has to do is enjoy her kick a$$ ride.

60k mile service make sure you get quote on the job from service. We've seen some rip offs here. Some dealership try to make more money on you then they should. There is only a few of them so don't stress out. Just make sure the dealer/servie where you taking it not one of them.

This is an online manual and tells you what to expect when you taking it in for service.

All I can see is maybe gas consumption and excessive tire useage. All conected to the right foot.

It is hard not to push the car to the limit.

And for last. We need some pix as soon as you getr the car for her. We do love pix.

Have you taken the car to an honest, competent shop for a pre-purchase inspection to make sure it hasn't been trashed or neglected by the previous owner?

Welcome to NICO.

You've gotten good advice so far, I looked at it from another angle tho, one of buying the car for your GF. Unless the goal is marriage or some form of permanent, long term (5-10 years) relationship, this is one hell of an investment.

In our practice we advice young couples (and you're very young at 26) to not invest in this manner (even joint apartment getting can become a legal nightmare if the relationship sours) given how tenuous relationships are these days. If the guy wants to do this, we always recommend keeping the car in your name, if possible, only. Sorry, didn't mean to digress into an area you asked for no advice in-- my apologies up front!

thanks for the advice. I am not actually making the purchase with my credit, it will be all under her name. Thanks for the concern though. I actually work at a GMC dealership and the person we are getting the vehicle from works at an Infinity Dealership. The G35 will be going through smog and safety at the dealer as well as a 100+ point inspection. thanks for the advice so far.

I am guessing nothing goes wrong with these cars that often cause no one really had anything to say. One of my concerns is the navigation system. Those suckers are expensive. Mechanically these cars are pretty sound I am guessing?

I have an '05 and regarding your concern on the nav system. The '05 was the first year to gain a motorized nav deck into the dash. Previous two years had a spring loaded system that you simply pushed in or released and it popped up.

I will tell you that you should have the nav checked. I do not want to scare you off with this but about a year ago mine would only motor up halfway and would then immediately retract back into the dash. I took it in and it was determined that the Navigiation power supply box assembly needed to be replaced. This was a $1,200 cost that luckily was under warranty. Other than that instance, I have had no other problems with the Navigation System.

Also, if you are buying this vehicle from someone that works at an Infiniti Dealership, then if you are lucky they serviced it there as well. If so, go to the dealership or have the Seller get Infiniti to print out the maintenence logs on the vehicle for as far back as possible. With any sport coupe, people will rag it out and not always take care of it. I have maintenence logs on my in a 3-ring binder back to 1,000 miles on it. If someone has truly maintained the car properly then you should be fine.

Just remember you are buying an expensive luxury coupe and service/ maintenence is not always cheap. On top of that you can only get the parts from Infiniti so that effects price. Typical dealers are getting $90+ an hour for service so be sure that you have the car thoroughly inspected before purchasing by someone you know and trust OR take it to another Infiniti dealership (other than the one the seller works for for a true third party opinion) and get it inspected.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Why not price out a brand new vehicle and compare the cost difference.Yes depreciation is high the first few years but she'll have a brand new vehicle with a 4 year 60k mile warranty. Divide the additional cost by the 10 years she'll keep the vehicle and the numbers may work?

Good luck
