New Axle.

Im seriously looking into swapping my rear end axle for something like a C200 or a H223B... What are some opinions about getting a used Diff... and possibly one with an LSD... I know the H223B's, some of them had stock LSDs.... I know ill have to re weld the leaf mounts.. tahts not a biggy.. I have a shop i can use now. Honestly I just want a axle with a deep gear set (4.6XX) and that is the most convienient to install...

Good luck finding a stocker LSD. My H233B has never given me any problems, 4.6325 gears. IDK about the driveshaft bolt pattern. I found some H233B Detroit Lockers, http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/....html

LSD's were pretty common in pathfinder SE's. Find one from a 90-95 model - they'll have the larger studs holding the 3rd member on. If you don't mind cutting off the link mounts and welding spring perches on, you'll likely have better luck finding a pathfinder LSD axle than one from a pickup. Auto trans trucks will have 4.625 gears; Manuals were typically 4.375.

So how do I check to see if its LSD? besides the SE... also with the Gears 4.6 what tire should I run to keep the speedo somewhat on spot... Any clue how much an axle would cost itself?

what size tire was stock on your truck?

The 4.6s will be suited well for a 30-31" tire. My truck came stock with 235/70/15s and 4.6 gears, and it was a little buzzy at 75mph on the hwy, but had pretty good grunt. When I went to 31s, it was still adequate. More than just the height is considered there - bigger tires are also considerably heavier and will affect seat of the pants feel.

the LSD diffs will typically have an orange sticker on the back that says LSD oil only. Another way to tell is to turn the axle on one side. If the other side turns in the opposite direction, it's an open diff. If it turns in the same direction, it's probably LSD.

well my truck came stock with P195/75/R14... in the early 90s my dad replaced em with 225/70/R14... now im on 225/60/R15.... So running 235/75/R15 or a 30x9.5 would be a difference lol!

Yep, and if you drove the truck with the little tires back on it, it would have a lot better performance.

the 4.625 gears would give the truck a lot more pep with those 235s at the expense of a higher cruising rpm

I was just doing the same math for my truck regarding final drive ratio differences with taller tires, so here is what i came up with and I hope it helps with your question about the 4.625 gears and tire size.

My truck came with the H233B with 4.625 gearing using 235/75/R15 (28.88 x 9.25) tires.

I now have 31's which lower my final drive down to 4.28 (this is the final drive you will have also if you do the swap using the same gearing/tire size). My truck is under powered for Colorado driving with the KA24E at this gearing, so I would not go with larger tires unless I went to 4.88's in the differentials. Running a 30" tire should put you at 4.44 final drive.
