What do you guys think? Comments? Suggestions?

Nick

P.S. Thanks to Wes for taking the time to write this long, informative article.

I like it alot. I was actually getting ready to ask a similar question after my drive back from lunch today. I have an idea for a second car for me and the '94 Q is what I was thinking about.

That is one EXCEPTIONAL write-up!

I wish I had this handy when I was shopping for my '91 Q. Unfortunately, I discovered NICO after I acquired ownership of the Q.

The bigger obstacle might be to make others aware of NICO before purchasing the Q. But that's a side comment and doesn't really relate to this article or subject matter.

WELL DONE fellas...I give it (the write-up) a 10 rating with 10 being best! Future NICO members will definitely benefit from your initiative in sharing the Q knowledge.

Well all the credit should go to Wes. I just made minor edits. :) But thanks nonetheless.

Very good Wes and Nick! Very informative. One thing that you might want to add. in this part...

Variations of the Q45:Q45: A Q45 with standard optionsQ45a: A Q45 with a full active suspensionQ45t: A Touring model Q45, which has upgraded wheels and a rear sway bar.

You forgot to say that the T model has the HICAS 4 wheel steering. As far as everything else, it looks very complete.

One other thing I want to mention, that may or may not apply...

I know you both went out of your way to NOT mention any costs involved when it comes to overall maitenance of the Q. However it may be of some benefit to let potential owners know a ballpark figure on big ticket repairs/maintenance items (i.e. cost to replace the chain guides on '90-'93 models, suspension replacements on "active" models, and perhaps alternatives to not keeping the car "active" like what the Jerry Tucker shop offers). That way, "would-be" Q owners are more aware of the potential costs involved in order to make a sound decision based on their personal financial situation. These are things well-informed NICO members may take for granted, but it isn't readily available for new members unless one would conduct an extensive thread search through the entire database. Bringing them to the forefront serves as a precaution...which is the point and purpose of your advise.

Very well put.

I would like to see articles on:
  • Replacing a fuel pump - great threads on this, but hard to find.

    Replacing Valve Cover Gaskets.

    Replacing Fuel Filter

    Replacing Spark Plugs

    Replacing Belts, tensioner

    Replacing Tension Rods

    Replacing Struts

Replacing Brake Pads, including worn brake sensors

Upgrading to Stainless Steel Brake Lines & Flushing brake fluid

Flushing Power Steering Fluid, transmission Fluid, Coolant, etc.

    Fuel Rail Flush

    Throttle Body Cleaning

    Plenum Removal and cleaning.

Adding a swaybar[/list=14] This should keep Wes busy all summer!
