20 bucks. it's a great upgrade from stock power antenna. but you have to get the Fix kit. the normal antenna wont do jack.

Ummm... on antennas... I bought an 89 240SX SE ("power convenience package") today.

It looks like it has a power antenna. Where is the button to retract it?

(Please excuse my ignorance..i It didn't come with an owners manual.)

It SHOULD retract when you turn the radio off and extend when you turn the radio on. It probably won't.

Personally, I would like to just get an in-dash antenna and replace the rear powered antenna with a HAM radio antenna Just have to get a license.

HAHAHAHAHA YES... That'S IT... RIGHT THERE...

put a satty on your roof and forget XM, use a laptop and you've got portable internet - internet radio stations (which powered thru a satellite connection would kinda be satellite radio) plus MP3's galore...

not to mention you could download porno's and watch much like people do to show off with there new-fangled in-dash tv's and dvd players - except you get the hardcore **** that they don't put on dvd like beastiality's if you're into that - girls w/ horses, or the ever-infamous GIRL ON GIRL ON GIRL ON GIRL ON GIRL ON GUY ON SHEEP!!!!!!

radio? WTF?I thought it died in the early 90s when CDs came out.Now that MP3 players are available on the market for under 200bux, why would you want to listen to crappy reception throught he FM????XM or Sirius I can understand, but FM????

The radio is there so you can listen to all the GREAT music coming out these days from so many diverse bands. </sarcasm>

As an Electrical Engineering student just having taken a course on radio modulation, I think that FM still has an advantage over satellite radio. Analog FM/PM can carry a better bandwidth than digital satellite. Actually in terms of efficient use of bandwidth, AM Single Side Band is king but it's signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is horrible. Simply put, for the same given bandwidth, an FM transmission will carry a better quality sound than a satellite transmission.

That's the technical advantage to FM. A high quality signal, however, doens't do jack when the stations transmit nothing but garbage. In terms of the quality of the programming, satellite has it made.

What are you going to do with the old powered one? Mind if I take it off your hands? I don't like mine because it sticks up all the time, and even though I don't use my radio, it just doesn't look good. And I don't want to shave it off, too much trouble. What if one day I sell the car, the guy's gonna be like, WTF, no antenna ?!

AM sucks because just about all electrical and some electro-chemical processes devices put out AM interference as part of normal operation.

A single DC electric motor will put out a signal that can be heard for hundereds of miles away!

Right, if you work through the equation for Signal to Noise Ratio as we did in Communications theory, you find that the SNR decays rapidly with increasing noise. I will dig up my notes tonight. However, AM and SSB AM still work very well when the signal you are trying to send is on a very tight bandwidth (morse code).
