hey guys.. i just got my 95 240sx..(that has a sr20det red top) and i drove it for about 50 miles (on the highway in 5th gear) and all of a sudden i press the gas and car doesnt accellerate.. the rpms still shoot up but it feels like im in nutural.. i pull over and car is still runing.. (when i purchased the car it smelled a little like transmission fluid inside).. i had to tow it home.. but when i pulled over i i tried shifting into gears and it felt like it went it but when i released my clutch nothing.. i asked the guy (i bought it from) and he said the transmission has about 50k on it..and the clutch is brand new.. i do hear a slight grinding sound sometimes and when i press the clutch the sound stops.. is my transmission gone? i check underneigh and it is leaking a little fluid but maybe a drop every few hours or so..

please help..

Gear oil smells terrible. I don't know how you went 50 miles without a ton of febreeze and your windows rolled down lol.

were you able to change gears with the car off or on still?

yeah it smelled bad.. but i did notice that in the trunk there was blue fluid in there that smelled like gear fluid.. when i asked called the seller again he said he had his rear differential in there and it leaked out.. so that actually could have been the source of the smell..

yes i was able to put it in gear on and off.. but it made noises when i let go of the clutch.. i have also noticed there was a leak comming from the mid left of the car.. i thought it was powersteering fluid but it wasnt red..

if it's at the middle, yeah probably your transmission ran low on fluid and probably kicked the bucket in that case. who did the swap and where was the set sourced from?

it wasn't really in the middle. .more like left front..

i managed to snap some pics of the leak.. since i put on the flash i finally got a chance to see that the liquid was green (coolant?).. never once did it over heat.. i have a huge koyo alum radiator with twin fans.. (but the temp gauge in the car did keep jumping from normal operating temp to cold..).. all i've owned previously were honda/acuras so this all this is sort of aliean to me.. anyway here are the pics.. i was trying to also make a video of the sounds it was making but i needed a jump and no one was around..

here in the pic i backed out a little so the white circle was before i backed up (and its been sitting there since monday) and the yellow circle was when i just backed it out.. so as you can tell it's leaking pretty bad.. but no leaks where the transmission meets the block..

could the leak be the major cause of why my car isn't catching gear?

Well you're losing coolant first off. That green stuff is coolant, probably the heater hoses that run under the intake manifold next to the block from the look of it.

If the leakage is up front at the engine you've got other problems than a transmission fluid leak. Go prop the car up and look through the little window that lets you have a look at what's going on in the bellhousing. It's at the back of the upper oil pan held in with two bolts.
