Hey guys, I'm a 300zx enthusiast, so the Q is fairly new to me. I just bought a 94 today, pearl white on tan, 140k. The car needs a key made, and it has a blown head gasket. The previous owner had a NOS system (stillen perhaps?) installed, since the hardware minus the tank is still in the car.

It has:Stillen 17" 5 spoke wheels, paint-matched pearl white (missing one wheel)brembo front big brake kitK&N air filter

Problems:-Needs a key made-Motor replacement or head gasket replacement necessary-Some short in the battery wiring (won't give the car juice unless you tug on the positive wire)-Needs a stereo

Anyways, the car appears to be in excellent condition (paint is very nice), minus some tree sap and pine needles from sitting for a while. I'd like to get a key made, and possibly swap another motor in the car to get it running. Could you guys point me in the direction of some helpful sites (besides this one) and possibly some retailers of performance/exterior modifications? I noticed the Y33 headlights, is there some sort of conversion, or aftermarket light for the '94-ish Q45 to look like those?

Thanks in advance! (btw, I paid $700 for the car, clean title)

Welcome to NICO.

Have the key made at the dealer. My dealer just gives me the number for their locksmith. $40 a key. Get a tube of graphite at Home Depot so you can lubricate all the lock cylinders. Avoid using monster keychains, as they tend to bend the locks and cause expensive problems.

This site and q45.org are the end-all and be-all of G50 information. Searching will reveal a plethora of info.

A lot of exterior modifications are purchased from Japan through Yahoo auctions. The most popular seem to be the crystal-clear headlight lens and LED tail lights. Lots of previous threads on those.

Check out the ECU threads.

Dump the K&N filter and go back to stock before you ruin your MAF.

Do you still have OEM speakers with Bose amps? If so, check our classifieds section for a 94 or earlier Nissan or Infiniti Bose head unit. If you want a CD player in the dash, you can use 95 and later OEM head units with a $17 adapter.

POST PICS.

We usually only pay $500 for cars in such condition but $700 is a good private price.

Nitrous can destroy any engine especially when amounts higher than 25% or a cheap system is used without fuel pressure safety cutoffs or proper ignition retards vs rpm/amount of N2O.

I would just swap the entire engine rather than trying to fix as rods, rings, pistons, bearings may have been stressed.

Over the [10] years T3 has swapped about 70 Q engines and attemped to rebuilt 3 with success.

You should be able to find a decent engine for $1000- $1500 expect 25 hours labor.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll do a little research on the lights you mentioned, I'm an HID dealer so which ever headlights I bought would be fitted with them.

I don't think the K&N is a problem, because it isn't a cone filter, it is the square oem replacement type.

It appears to still have the front speakers, factory CD changer, and some sort of factory amp in the rear, but I wasn't able to see if it was a bose or not.

Engine replacement is likely the route I would take, I found a junkyard in spokane with a 95 motor with 77k for $1100.

While the notor is out: spend a day rehabing it: new front and rear main seals new valve cover gaskets replace every hose under and feeding plen 100% replacement twit and replace knock sensors and harness,,,,,etc etc.

Clean throttle body and plenum.................so easy out of car........budget a whole day for this alone.

First, Weclome to NICO, I think Jesda hit all the high spots. Now on to your post ...

There's a thread about putting 5 series Bimmer lights in the Q, looks good, but probably not "brighter" per se.

The oil from the drop in can also do harm or effect the MAF's performance. In the end it's better to use a quality paper drop in filter.

The amps were piggy-backed on each speaker (except for the A piller tweeters), here's a diagram of the trunk to help identify the part you've found.

Ok, I just talked to the infiniti dealership. They said the key has to be laser cut down in California, and would cost $190. Is this the only way to go about it?

sigh ... what is it with these dealerships? You can get the key cut almost anywhere (the better locksmiths) for under $50, if you have the code or another key.

To get the good big heavy key, it's more $$. Contact Joe at Infiniti of Scottsdale, he should eb abel to do MUCH better than that.

Infiniti of Beaverton, OR said they could get the key made for $129 as well. (They'd send it to New York). How can I find the key code to take it to a locksmith?
